What is Picketts charge you were speaking of? thank you, Katie My ggg-grandfather, Gilbert Washington Powell was in the 56th Virginia Infantry. This unit was under the command of Stonewall Jackson and ultimately General Robert E Lee. Pickett's charge was the ill fated Southern charge at Gettysburg, Pa. It was fashionable to name children after their father's commanding officers and so I assume that's how Gilbert's daughter became Anne Jackson Powell. Most of the names that repeat through the generations in my Powell family are common names like Ann, John, William. But there are also multiple Henry/Harry, Walter, Charles and Andrew's.
