Powell, 81, formerly of Illinois City, Ill. and Edgington, Ill., died Oct. 15, 2001, in Louisville. Celebration of Life services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Illinois City United Methodist Church, Illinois City. The Rev. Loretta Thomas will officiate. A luncheon will be held after the service. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Mrs. Powell was born June 8, 1920, in Edgington, the daughter of Henry and Lucille Harter Mueller. She married Roscoe Powell Nov. 20, 1941, in Edgington. Survivors include her husband of Lafayette, Colo; a son, Gary Powell of Broomfield, Colo.; two daughters, Vicki Kaplan of Lafayette and Tia Grohne of Louisville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Stewart Mueller of Edgington. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister. ===================== ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Odette C. Powell, 86, Rock Island, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Illinois City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, Ill., is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made the Illinois City United Methodist Church. Ms. Powell was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Illinois City, Ill., the daughter of Sherman and Margaret Tyler Powell. She graduated from Muscatine High School and Western Illinois State Teachers College. She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Iowa and a master of arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, Calif. She served as an U.S. Navy WAVE for three years in Washington D.C. She was a lifelong member of Illinois City United Methodist Church was a charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She taught in rural schools in lower Rock Island County for six years and 29 years in the Long Beach, Calif. school district. Survivors include a sister, Jeanette Feldman of Bettendorf; a brother, Roscoe Powell of Lafayette, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bernice Fowler and Eva Fuhr; and three brothers, Vaughn, Allan and Sherman. ==================== Vera M. Powell, 95, West Liberty, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after a brief illness. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Powell was born Aug. 14, 1911, in Eliza, Ill., the daughter of Joe and Molly Monson Cox. She married John G. Powell on Feb. 25, 1933, in Illinois City, Ill. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1930. She and her husband farmed in the Cedar Valley area south of West Liberty for many years. She was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church and the UMW, Farm Bureau, Cedar Valley Community Club and the Floriculture Society. She enjoyed baking and cooking, entering many baked goods at the county fair where she had won many ribbons. Survivors include a son, John Powell Jr. and wife Jan of Tipton; two grandchildren, Sheri Huprich and husband Walter of Burlington and Julie Powell of Tipton; four great-grandchildren, Chris Cantonwine, Angie Cantonwine, Ryan Cantonwine and Jared Huprich; a brother, Charles Cox and wife Annie of Peoria, Ill.; and a sister, Doris Kenney of Milan, Ill.
