Which John Wesley Powell are you talking about? I have come across at least three John Wesley Powells with different birth years and different parents. When you refer to one could you at least provide a birth year and a fathers name? It would make it easier to determine whether there might be a connection. Also not all branches of the Powell will intersect. So the two coats of arms more than likely have little or nothing to do with each other.
