    2. Hello Group, The name John runs in my Thomas Powell of Chester County, PA family, too. John Powell, b. 1665 in Cheshire County, England, was my 7th Great-grandfather. The latest John I have was born in 1741 to David Powell, b. 1718, and Elizabeth Chalfant, b. 1722. I recently came across information that suggests that this Thomas Powell, born abt. 1640, was born in Holt, Denbigh County, Wales, rather than Rudheath, Cheshire, England. According to this research, it's possible that there are Johns in my family dating back to 1539. ~ Marge in Ohio ~ Marge in Ohio

    3. Greetings Powell Group: I am researching my Powell line which is replete with John's and I am hoping someone else is working on the ancesters of the family emigrant John Powell b. 1595. (my 13 GG) This John Powell was the first John Powell documented in America in Jamestowne arriving 1609 on the Swallowe. He survived the Indian massacres (in which two other early Powells, Nathaniel and William were killed.) He is listed with wife Katherine and son John on the VA muster of 1624/25 as living at that time. He was an ancient planter and probably died around 1636 leaving his wife Catherine and four sons (only one documented - another John.) I am working with a cousin on this line and we have hit nothing but brick walls on the ancestry of John b. ca 1595. Speculation has him related to Nathaniel and William of Jamestowne; related to Castle Madoc Powells; or son of a John Powell b. 1558 in St. Olave Parish, Southwarke, Surrey. We have found nothing to document any of these theories. If anyone has any documentation on his pedigree, please contact me. I hope someone knows. My father and grandfather were also John Powells.
