The following was found in the loose papers at the Georgia State Archives. Georgia Columbia Co. I Sarah Powell Do solemly swear that I will well & truly do & perform the duties required of me as guardian of Gilly(is), Mary James William Fanny Ellin Jackson Elijah A Powell orphans of Hardy Powell Dec to the best of my ability So help me God Sworn to in open court this 3rd Nov 1823 In other records in the same file the six children remained the same except Gilly would appear as Gillis and Ellin would appear as Ellen. Jackson and Elijah were only listed once. Mahaly was listed three times. Elizabeth A was listed once. William Riley husband of Margaret Powell and Simeon Powell were listed twice as adult children.
