I descend from Capt. Joshua POWELL who died 1781 in Halifax County, VA at the age of about 47. He was the son of Hezekiah POWELL and Bathia (maiden name unk.). Joshua had a brother named William who was born 26 Apr 1729 in Bristol Parish, VA. I think this brother was the William POWELL who also turned up in Halifax at about the same time as Joshua but I cannot prove that...too many Williams! Hezekiah was the son of John POWELL who married Michell/Nichell TURNER ca 1690. She was the sole heir of her father, Hezekiah TURNER who died in Rappahannock County, VA before 1677. Whether this John is related to the John of Jamestown is anybody's guess at this point. They also named a son William. I have a bit more on these folks if anyone is interested.
