There's another interesting POWELL connection that goes way back in history: Joane POWELL (abt 1608 - 1661 Rotterdam, Holland). There's some difference of opinion as to whether her maiden name was POWELL -- she might have been a widow when she married (abt 1628/9, prob in Holland) John CUSTIS. Now, they just happen to be parents of The CUSTIS Family of Virginia. I gathered a lot of info on them before making the discovery that we are not related after all. Still, it's interesting that there were POWELLs in Rotterdam at that time. John CUSTIS operated a hotel which was favored by Puritans who had left England, some of them quite wealthy. John CUSTIS, of course, had come from England to Holland, and his children who came to America were Puritans.
