    3. Ray, My POWELLs only go back to a Joseph POWELL who was b about 1730, place unknown. He married Christen/ Christina FRY/FREY abt 1752/3, prob in Frederick Co, VA. (later, Hampshire Co and Hardy Co, now in WV). I strongly suspect that he was connected in some way to Samuel POWELL, one of the "English Moravians" who arrived in 1742, and were leaders of the community just south of Bethlehem, PA. Much has been written about these two POWELLs but I find nothing about Samuel's children. If my suspicions are correct, Joseph was most likely born in England -- near the Welsh border, or in London, prior to the families' departure for America. Moravian missionaries frequently stopped at Frey's Fort, so logically Joseph would have met his future wife living there. She also had Moravian relatives living south of Bethlehem. Whatever, I'm still looking for "proof positive" on Joseph. Remarkable thing is that he and his descendants continued to intermarry with families of Dutch descent for many generations.
