The California gold rush was in 1848 and I would have thought that it had tapered off by the time frame I mentioned. Alameda County is just south of Oakland CA, in fact, I haven't looked recently but it may include Oakland. I lived in Oakland in 1965-66 but I didn't pay much attention to county lines back then. ;-) Girls were far more interesting to a high school student.
