Dear List: By now if you are reading these emails, you must know that at least two of us are working on the Powells from York, James City, Williamsburg, Warwick and Surry Sussex area. We are asking for your help and information that you might have that could help us in finding our Powell lines. In spite of multiple deeds, wills and other information we are still at a quandary as to which of these families our lines might attach...if any. As best we can determine there were possible families there. Ann is searching for the family of the Edward Powell with will of 4 Nov 1795 and probated in Oglethorpe Co Ga. (please see her earlier post) I (Mary Jean) am searching for the family of the Seymour/Seymore/Seamore Powell who did before 1767 with wife Lucy Moss and sons Thomas Powell, Surgeon; John Powell, Surgeon and daughter Lucy Powell Roberts. Some of the current printed genealogies, such as Rev. Lucas' "Powell Book" and Thelma Hansford "Powell Family" paper, do not seem to address all the available records nor identity either of the families correctly of the two Powells that we are searching. We will and to some degree have shared some of our accumulated records and I plan to send two other records after this. We ask you also to help, suggest, or share your records with all of us or to offer some discussion or comment. Are there any of you out there who still have that wonderful "genealogist help each other" mentality? Look forward to hearing from somebody...I hope. Thanks, Mary Jean Zimmerman
Has anyone run across a Martha A. Powell who married Jefferson D. Stull. The were married in Washington Co., Ohio and found living in Ritchie Co., WV in 1900. They had five daughters one of which was Arizonia Rebecca who married Nicholas Stewart. > Dear List: By now if you are reading these emails, you must know that > at least two of us are working on the Powells from York, James City, > Williamsburg, Warwick and Surry Sussex area. Hi Mary Jean, I certainly have the let's help each other mentality, but unfortunately don't have any information that might help you. I've decided that's the case with lots of other Powell searchers. We wish we could help, but just can't. I've been following this board for about a year and a half, with no luck. I put in a query every few months, with the hope that someone new has joined who's looking for the same line I am. The Powell I'm looking for is Zachariah, whose daughter Martha, my ancestor, was born in Pendleton District, SC, in Oct. 1804. And that's all I know about him, except that he was still in that area the next year, b/c he entered (unsuccessfully) the 1805 Elbert Co., GA land lottery. I do hope you find some help and I'm really sorry I can't provide any.
