Powell, Seymour Patent – 1694 (MJZimmerman 12/2003) 20 April 1694 – Publication Land Office Patents Book 8 1689-1695 p. 381 & 382 282 Acres in York and Warwick Co Virginia For the transportation of four persons to the colony whose names were: Robert Collier – Wm. Lane/Love – David Robinson – Thos. Shadling Recap comment: Land – 130 acres formerly granted to William Major by patent Nov 6 1678 and by said Major sold unto Seamore Powell by deed 1 Feb. 1686. This land is located near Hill’s land, near Owen Morris, near Major Harwood’s line, and land belonging to a Wade . It is also near land formerly known as Brocks or Brocas Land (?). 152 acres of the land now taken up by Seamore Powell...Appears that 130 acres lie in York Co. and remainder likes in Warwick. p. 381 & 381 Transcription follows~ To all and whereas and know ye that I the said Sir Edmund Andros --- Governor – do with the advice & comfort of the Council of the State accordingly give & grant unto SEAMORE POWELL 282 acres of land being in York and Warwick County, adjoining the Lodge Land and now belonging to (?Major) Hill, BEGINNING at: 2 Marked white oaks standing on a stump on the south side of (Brocas ?) Swamp thence West 16 poles to a Marked White oak thence West 20 degrees South 108 poles, along the land of OWEN MORRIS to a Spanish oak South 15 degrees; East along the land belonging to old(?) Charlos 78 poles to a former Spanish oak thence East 9 poles, South 15 degrees, East 45 poles to a former Spanish oak, West 27 degrees, South 64 poles to a red oak, South two(2)degrees West 54 poles to a red oak, West 15 degrees, South 82 poles to a former read oak, West 25 degrees North 24 poles to a red oak in MAJOR HARWOODS line of marked trees, thence By the said Harwood’s line South 80 poles to a marked Gum, South 20 degrees West 64 poles to a former gum tree belonging to the land of WADE thence East along the land of said Wade 60 poles, East by South (halfo?) South 36 poles South east 84 poles to a red oak being the reputed corner (?...), belonging to HILL’s lands, thence Northerly along the said Land formerly known by the name of (Brocas?)Land (dec’d ?) 530 poles to the beginning place and 130 acres of the said land formerly granted to WILLIAM MAJOR by Patent Dated the sixth November 1678 (Nov. 6th 1678) and by the said Major sold unto SEAMORE POWELL by deed of sale dated the Feby first (Feb.1st ) 1686 the (remainder ?) being 152 acres of land now taken up and being deed unto the said SEAMORE POWELL by and for the transportation of four ( 4) persons to this colony all whose names are in the records Montioned (? mentioned) and under this patent, to have and to hold-paying and provided dated the 20th of April 1694.
