The one in the reference above is living in England at the time of the petition. I have not seen any reference to the names of his brothers and sisters, and according to the following, he sold Nathaniel's land in VA. _William and Mary College Quarterly_ Vo. VI, series 1, 1897-1898. "Historical and Genealogical Notes." pp.121-131. Page 128. POWELL--Capt. Nathaniel Powell was among the first colonists at Jamestown in 1607. . . There is a grant in 1638 to Wm. Barker, mariner, and his associates, for 1850 acres in Charles City County, of which 600 acres were 'heretofore called Powle-brooke and now known as Merchant's Hope,' situated upon the south side of James River, due by sale from John Taylor, 'citizen and girdler of London, and purchased by him from Thomas Powell, of Howelton, in the County of Suffolk, yeoman, brother and lawful heir of Capt. Nathaniel Powell, late of Virginia, deceased.'" . . . page 129. . . "On June 1, 1656, Wm. Powell, of Southwarke, in the county of Surry, in England, baker, administrator of Capt. Wm. Powell, 'late of Chippoakes in the Collony of Virginia, his natural+ brother deceased, and heire unto George Powell, the natural sonne of s[ame] Capt. Wm. Powell, late whilest he lived of Chippoakes affores, since also deceased, and William Parker of Leadenhall Street, in London, cheesemonger, and Ann his wife, grandchild of the said William Powell, acting by Ralph Dunston and Sam Henbye, their attorneys,' sold to William Batt 800 acres of land, more or less, . . .'" Page 129, John Powell, tailor, came to Virginia in 1608. Another came in 1609. William Powell was an orphan of John Powell of York County, VA and in 1646 was appointed Rev. Thomas Hampton as guardian. Hampton was removed after abusing his position and keeping his charge nearly naked. 1651, Benjamin Powell was in York Co, patented by his father, John, deceased. Benjamin mentioned 1653, his brother, William Powell. 1624, Thomas Powell lived at Hog Island. Capt. William Powell of VA, who tried to claim the land of Capt. Nathaniel Powell, was not related to him, hence the filing by Thomas Powell, brother of Nathaniel. There is no evidence that this Thomas Powell ever came to VA. He is not proven to be the Thomas Powell of Isle of Wight. Barbara
