I am searching for Lewis Powell born 1853 in Wisconsin, died Feb 1884 in Holyrood, Ellsworth Co, KS. He married Mary born about 1858 in OH (maiden name unknown) probably about 1876-7 ... don't know where. There were three daughters Rose, Letta, and Adda all born in Kansas. Lewis, Mary, and Rose are in the 1880 Ellsworth Co, KS census. The widow Mary and daughters Letta and Adda appear in the 1885 census. I am assuming Rose died, but could have just been left out of the census. I have never found Lewis in a census with his mother, Lucretia Powell Oziah until he is living next door to her in 1880. I have lost Mary and the girls after the 1885 census. They are not in Ellsworth Co, KS in the 1895 census. Lucretia and the rest of her children are in Manitowoc Co WI in 1850, Stark and Henry Counties, IL in 1860 and 1870. Any help will be appreciated! Gayle in Kansas

Hi, Gayle in Kansas! What was the date of birth for Lucretia Powell Oziah? Do you know the name of her first husband, the Powell? Were they ever in Tennessee? I ask because I remember I wrote her name down on a slip of paper as someone to explore while doing research for the siblings or parents of my gr. gr. gr. grandmother, Rebecca Powell. She was born in Tennessee around 1806 0r 1807. I would sure love to find out who her parents were or even some siblings. She married an Ellis, where I haven't been able to find out. He must have died and then she remarried to Jonas Manary in Morgan County, Illinois. So, I don't know if her own family moved north or her first husband and she moved north, or what. I'm exploring all possibilities! Will keep an eye out for your family.
