According to later census recors, his father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in Illinois. Anyone have a Powell family that fits that description and had a son William? I wonder whether Wm. O. might be a part of the Ambrose Powell of Maury TN descendants. I don't know what the "O" is for, but one branch of the family had several Peter O. members, and the name William is seen throughout the family.
