Everyone has done a lot of research on this Powell of York family but it seems no one really knows/ accepts who belongs to whom. I suggest you try a search on USGen.web Archives from Virginia on Powells and you will find considerable transcriptions on wills and deeds etc. and I have contributed a few. I also have recently been transcribing a Chancery Suit regarding Mary Powell Phillipson Wynn in which her sons Edward, Robert and John are mentioned. You might want to browse through early posts on this mailing list on these Powells including the "Edwin/Edmund/Edward" Powell you are seeking. There are many transcriptions and research contributions that have been posted on this mail list on all those Powells and perhaps you can compare their finds or contributions with that you received from Durward E. Powell. Now please check your pages that you received and let me know exactly what evidence supports that the wife of Thomas Powell who died in York Co - will 1735 probated 1739, named Mary had the maiden name of Turkey? You mentioned what he stated in his notes, but did he offer any proof or citations that supports any of his statements? From the net, I found this about Durward Powell's book and it appears to begin in the 1790's and so I am wondering where in this book he discusses the York County Powells. He has me by a few years and I don't believe had much interest in following the branches beyond what he was searching. What he is involved in now is the names you and I are speaking about. I also have the Powell book by Lucas, and as Durward explains to me there is some controversy over where certain Powell's migrated to and that there are GA Powell's laying claim to certain ancestors too. I have 14 pages of information that he wrote to me and have to admit that I am very very new to all of this.
