I am new to the Powell list and I am looking for any information on the William Powell who married Sally Johnson in Halifax Co. VA on 16 Sep 1786. It is thought that William and Sally Johnson Powell had one child named Elizabeth (Betsey) Powell, b. abt. 1787 Halifax Co. VA and married Thomas Traylor 2 June 1802 in Oglethorpe Co. GA. Elizabeth (Betsey) Powell Traylor is named in the Will of Smith Johnson in Oglethorpe Co. GA dated 13 Dec 1803; Recorded 7 Jan 1806. Smith Johnson was the Grandfather of Elizabeth (Betsey) Powell Traylor and the father of Sally Johnson Powell. Since Smith Johnson does not mention his daughter, Sally Johnson Powell or any others that could have been children of Sally it is thought that Sally died soon after her daughter, Elizabeth was born. It is my hope that someone might have knowledge of guardianship papers for Elizabeth (Betsey) Powell in either Halifax Co. VA or Oglethorpe Co. GA or a Will of a William Powell naming a daughter, Elizabeth (Betsey) Powell. It appears more likely than not that Sally Johnson Powell died before 1790 but I have no clue what happened to her husband, William Powell. Any help will be most appreciated. Deanna
