Joyce - Sorry to be just getting around to saying this, but thanks so much for all your hard work in presenting the information from the Philip POWELL book! That was very generous of you to type/share all of that. I also own a copy of this book and am fascinated by it, especially given the time it was written. A note of interest. I believe I descend from the first son of Philip and Julia Ann (MILLER) POWELL, John, who the author 'had but little history'. I believe it is because John, who married Regina ALSPACH, of German descent with whom he lived in PA German communities, came to be known in many records as Johannes PAUL. PAUL pronounced in German sounds almost identical to POWELL. Another of Philip and Julia Ann's kids, Peter, married another ALSPACH sister -- their name seems to have stayed static at POWELL to the best of my limited knowledge. Even Philip POWELL himself is recorded variously as Philp PAUL. He was apparently a Pennsylvania Rev. War vet, at least all the names match up in both the Philip PAUL and Philip POWELL families. I have not researched this to the extent I need to to prove it one way or the other, but certainly there are too many similarities for it to be just an odd coincidence. I know that there are others out there from this line that also think this to be true -- has anyone out there proved it? My PAUL line stayed in Schuylkill Co.
