In reading further down on the sons of Thomas Sr and wife Mary, it lists both a John (who is identified as having gone to GA) and a Robert with will in Greensville as their sons. This chancery suit supports that the Robert of Greensville (as outlined in the book) was the son of a Mary Powell Philipson Wynne BUT her son John dies in Brunswick Co VA not Georgia as is assumed in Lucas' book. Sadly most of the resources in the book on this family are confined to wills--all he had to work with -- but there are many more documents that needed to be reviewed to identify these individuals. It appears that the Thomas Powell son of Mary (with will of 1749 identifying her) may have had a different father than the one identified in Lucas' book. Just another confusing Powell line, I am afraid. If you find a document actually stating that Mary Philipson was indeed the wife of the Thomas Powell who died in York in 1739, please share it. Sure appreciate your response and help. MJZ
Hi are you speaking of the book The Powell Families of VA and the south by Lucas? I have a question about this book. I have it. My people were in NC in the 1850's but they are not listed in this book. They are Powell's. In my own records they have spellings Powel and Powell as last names. Why wouldnt my family be listed in here? Thanks!
