    3. Since I am researching the Sawyer line partly by tracing the Powell line, interesting to see the Cotton name because this name is in the Sawyer lineage. Unfortunately I just got a new computer this evening after my two computers crashed and much of my research was recovered and placed on CDs so I will need to look through those for information and will post. Either Benjamin, Kadar/Cader, and Lewis Powell were the children of George or maybe of Moses Powell directly. I will post more. The three Powells above signed the will of John Sawyer in Edgefield in 1789. Thanks I will post more in the next couple of days. 3. Benjamin Calvin Cotton has a connection to the Sawyer family I am looking for. Your link did not work to the Cotton page. Nice documentation on the Powells. 3. Onslow County, N. C. Court Jan 4 1743 #20 Lewis Powell marrying the widow of Samuel Keel exhibits a past account into this court wherein it appears there is a 56:3:1 due on the balance of the sd. account the third parts to be divided among 3 orphans belonging to the sd. Samuel Keel, Dec'd together with what was formerly ordered. #21 On motion of Thomas Johnston grandfather to 3 orphans belonging to Samuel Keel, dec'd and Lewis Powell marrying the widow of the sd. dec'd setting forth that there was a bond passessed from John Brock to make a title for 200 acres of land to the Samuel Keel and the sd. Thomas Johnston the sd. Samuel Keel having made an exchange to a verbal bargain and for 150 acres of land confirmed where the sd. Samuel Keel died and the court being informed it could be of advantage for the orphans of the sd. dec'd to have the sd. 150 acres of land which was exchanged verbally as aforesaid it is order the sd. bargain be confirmed and proved the sd. Thomas Johnston procure a firm title to the orphans aforesaid which being performed the sd. Brocks bond is to be delivered up and the wife of the sd. Lewis Powell to have all possessions of the sd. plantation during the time of their being under age or till married to which all parties agreed. The next reference from Bertie County Deed Book L-2 Thomas Miers and his wife Elizabeth (X) of Bertie Co. to Cader Powell, Jr. of Hertford Co. 18 Sep 1769 20 pounds N. C. 540 acres on north side of Cashy Swamp, Joining Thomas Rhoades, Henry Rhoades. Wit: Demcy Powell, George Powell, James Harrell Dec Ct 1769 cc: John Johnston. One of the children of Samuel Keel husband number 1 and Sarah Johnston, was married to John Sawyer (written as Sayer and Salyer in records in Bertie Co.) We could not figure out the Sawyer and Powell connection in Edgefield County....as they seemed like brothers and were on many of the same deeds in S. C. but could not find a definite link to the Powells until now. Lewis Powell became the stepfather to Priscilla Keel who at some point married John Sawyer In 1750 Lewis Powell was in Onlsow County selling land owned by William Williams and Moses Powell signed this deed. 1751 Thomas Johnston died and Priscilla Keel was mentioned in his will.. I will send more when I can look at my saved files from my crashed computer. Arcell Sawyer

    3. Around 1741 Lewis Powell and Sarah Keel were married by 1750 Thomas Johnston had died and Priscilla Keel Powell mentioned in will 1757 John Sawyer of Duplin County selling property in Onslow County and was married to Priscilla Keel 1759 Lewis Powell selling land patented by Wm. Williams 640 acres. 1760 John Sawyer bought 200 A "Chambers Folly and sold it to James Williams the same day. I have tried to find the location of Chambers Folly. It seems John Sawyer was in S. C. by 1765 along with the Benjamin , Cader and Lewis Powell. More tomorrow evening. Arcell
