Abraham is in the 1860 Winston Co AL census, age 70, with wife Nancy and children Miles, Sarah. Next to him is a son J. Newton Powell, and on the other side is John B. Powell, age 36, with wife Dovey, who was of some kin. Abraham is not in 1870 Winston, but there are Pleasant T. Powell(son of John B.), Tillman(son of Abraham) and John B., age 47. The "B" was for Byrd. Also there is an Abraham W. Powell, age 42, wife Nancy L. and several children. Anthony Powell is in the 1870 Blount census, age 56, b. SC, with wife Eleander, children George, Mary, John and Nancy. Anthony Wayne Powell was the first child of George Powell(son of James/Rebecca). He and Eleanor also in 1850 Blount as A.W. Powell, age 37, Eleanor, 26 and George 1/12. George listed as his father in Owens Biography and also on Ken Sims website. What we have here are 3-4 Powell family groups in the Blount/Winston/Cullman area of AL. The Abraham W. Powell family, James/Rebecca Powell, my group-James and Mazdy Murphree Powell- and John Byrd Powell, who may be connected to Abraham W. There are just too many A. W. Powells. I don't find these people at all in my list. Does anyone know what the initials stand for and what branch of the tree they come in on?
