Here is what I have at this point and would really appreciate verification if any of you know of these POWELLS. Thanks! 1) SOURCE - Virginia Hanks - "Childers-Childress Family Association" - Deeds - APPOMATOX and UPER SAPPONIE CREEK (VA) - JOHN and MARGERY POWELL CHILDRESS of INDIANA TO JESSE BLAND of AMHERST COUNTY (VA), LAND BEQUEATHED TO JOHN CHILDRESS by WILL OF THOMAS POWELL, 18 March, 1783. NOTE - I know there was a connection of the BLAND family to POWELL, I believe through marriage, correct if wrong? 2) SOURCE - BETTY RENFROE - SEPT 1999, POWELL-LIST (Rootsweb archives) - AS written - "Mrs. Hiden gives THOMAS POWELL a son THOMAS POWELL, JR. lived in Amherst [VA] and lived near RICHARD [Powell] may be his brother, his wife was AMY. In his will, he left property to ELIZABETH PEYTON, CATHERINE RIGGIN, JOHN CHILDRESS, WILLIAM WARE, GODSON. His widow married WILLIAM HOWARD after his death. I think THOMAS POWELL, JR. may have had a daughter who married JACOB SMITH a neighbor of RICHARD POWELL, also JOHN and MARY SMITH. THOMAS POWELL, JR. and his wife both left wills, they burned." - "THOMAS POWELL, JR. may have had a son named RICHARD POWELL married ELIZABETH, of age in 1728, his children are EDMUND, CLARY born 1739 m. David WOODRUFF, WIATT, RICHARD, JR, JOHN, RHODA who married JOHN TUCKER [NOTE: John Tucker was the son of Sophia Childress and Matthew Tucker - Sophia Childress was daughter of Abraham Childress lll (aka Childers) and his wife, Elizabeth CANNON, daughter of William CANNON and Judith WOODSON], Winfred, Thomas - Some of this family went to Lincoln County, KY." - Ms. Renfroe also quotes Rev Lucas on his genealogical information regarding Thomas Powell, Jr. and their branch in Amherst County (VA). 3) SOURCE - CHILDRESS-List (rootsweb archives) Gary and Mark Childress series - According to their series (March 2005), they say that MARGERY POWELL married JOHN CHILDRESS and after they left Amherst County (VA), they migrated to NC (Burke and Wilkes County till 1795c) until they settled in KNOX COUNTY, (TN) and in 1804c they received land from the estate of.Thomas Powell in his will, of which they sold. Would anyone on this board know of these Powells? I've done a search for a MARGERY POWELL and have not found any mention of the Christian name whatsoever. Nor have I found a marriage of a JOHN CHILDRESS to Margery POWELL. I did find POWELLS married to the above, along with JOPLING. As you can see, Ms Virginia Hanks publication states they (John and Margery Powell Childress) were living in INDIANA when they received the land in Amherst Co. (VA) but, Gary Childress states they were in TENNESSEE when they received the land. Anyone have a comment or can verify? Was there a MARGERY POWELL and whose daughter was she? The JOPLINGS, WARES, CHILDRESS did marry into the POWELL family, but I can't confirm the JOHN CHILDRESS above. MaryJean
