Virginia, that moved to Elbert Co. Ga. in the late 1700's. He married a Sarah, and had at least 2 children or more. One was a Francis M. Powell that married a Dooley and a Lucritia Powell that married a Pickett Shiflett. This Francis's parents are John Powell and Ann Pickett. plus there were 9 or 10 more children in this family. When Francis moved to Elbert Co. Ga., he had many land deals, and his children witnessed many of the deals, along with a Lewis R. Powell or Lewis Riddle Powel. I have somewhat proof that he died 1830-1839, but need a Will to prove his children. This family has been proven a T haplogroup in the Y-DNA test for the Male Line of these Powells. There is another Francis Powell that came from Amherst Co. Virginia, and went to Wilkes Co. Ga.. He married a Nancy Whitehead, and more less settled in Wilkes Co. Ga.. This is a different Francis Powell born about 1755 in Amherst, Co. Va., moved to Wilkes Co. Ga., and had a family. I am not aware that this Francis moved to Habersham Co. Ga.. I do know that Francis Powell Sr. had a son Francis M. Powell Jr. that married a Dooley lady moved to Habersham Co. Ga. and had a family. So far I have no DNA proof about this second Francis Powell born 1755, that he could be apart of my Francis Powell Sr's family, but they both fought in the Rev. War but have different land pension numbers, which makes a lot of difference. In Elbert Co. Ga. Francis Powell Sr. went to court to get his Rev. Pension, and Francis Powell of Wilkes Co. Ga. was denied his Pension. If you or anyone might want help with the research to prove the difference of these 2 Francis Powells, please let me know. I will be willing to share. If anyone has the Will of Francis Powell Sr., I would appreciate a copy of it. I believe that my Lewis Riddle Powell born 1792 could very well be his Father.
