Went through some old notes and found a record of 1860 Census for Perry County, Mississippi listing Hinton Powell which says he was age 57 and born in Georgia. He was household #72, and my GG Grandfather John Powell was Household #73. Of course, many families wandered through several states (or territories) before they settled.
