Do you know of any direct line living males from Sampson? I have heard that William is a very likely candidate for Sampson'~Dianes father but no documentation. I had thought Allen 1786 to be a likely father as he had 8 sons in 1830 and only takes 6 to Cass/Gordon Co.,GA. by 1840. In 1870 Allen 1786 is living next door to Cyrus in Gordon Co., GA. Although and I know it seems crazy the census taker listed Cyrus as Josiah 1820 (but Josiah had died in 1863) and Huldah and the cildren are listed with Cyrus in 1860 and 1880. In 1880 Sampson and family are living next door to Cyrus who is the Executor of Allen 1786 Estate in Gordon Co., GA Also in 1840 William M. Powell and Josias 1787 Powell are still in Pickens Co., GA but by 1860 both are in Gordon Co., GA too. We have a DNA donor for Josias/Josiah 1787 also. He has a variation from the rest of the group in the slower mutating marker #437 and the faster mutat! ing red alle marker #570. Josias had 3 sons George M., and Ashley are accounted for. But have not been able to find out who is other son was. Have you found any documentation connecting William and Sampson? One thing I have learned is most of what I had been told about my various ancestors was a combination of truth and inaccurate assumption. :-) But it was those stories that created my love of and addiction to genalogy.
