NC. Since both Montgomery and Robertson Counties border KY, your family probably didn't live very far from the KY/TN border. Mine also. In fact, my Powells intermarried with Causeys who owned land that was in both counties and is now probably part of Ft. Campbell, KY. Have you looked at deeds for that area of KY in the early 1800s? I found a deed for Thomas and Robert Causey, brothers dated 1821. You might find the parents of your William Jackson Powell by looking who purchased land near the KY/TN border before 1825. The biggest migration from Halifax Co. NC seemed to be around 1815. That's when my Eaton and Holly sold their land to William Powell, Jr. in Halifax Co. NC. They had a son in the Spring of that year in NC, but by 1818, they were known to have been in Montgomery Co. TN. Also, if you could find a direct male line from your William Jackson Powell to join the Powell DNA project, we can compare to a couple of others of us that came from Halifax Co. NC.
