Dear Ed, Your wonderful offer is accepted heartily. Let me think about how it should be done, logistically - depending on my capabilities here. The Catholic Powells were Eris Sr's family, only. He married a strong Catholic woman, and it proceeded from there. The rest of the family is Protestant - my grandmother was Presbyterian here in California, and I believe also in TN. I, also, have quite a bit of info on the Powells and I will send you what I have, too. What software program do you use? (Is the Mormon program "Family Search" or something like that?)(I use The Master Genealogist.) What about you doing a Descendency file from the earliest Powell you have, then saving it and attaching it to me at my email address, which you can find by clicking on my name at Rootsweb. That probably would be the easiest for you (I don't like Gedcoms, anyway) and I could do my own adding of material that's new to me. And, if you don't mind, I'd like your email address too. Send it to me with the file - I hate to put this on the internet because robots phish it when it's open to the public. MaryLou Sherman was the daughter of Nancy Elizabeth Martin who md Max Gallimore. Her husband is living and working; their daughter April is now an attorney. I don't have any information on William T. Martin's children, although Lillian's letter said he had ten children. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Should it be of interest I have a newspaper clipping (I don't know which paper) that reads: "Rev. Ralph Austin Powell, Dominican Priest. The Rev. Ralph Austin Powell, 86, a native Washingtonian, Roman Catholic priest and member of the Dominican Order, died of leukemia at a Dominican facility in Chicago. The Rev. Powell graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School and Georgetown University. He received a doctorate in philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He joined the Dominican Order in 1944 and was ordained in 1951. Early in his career, he taught philosophy at Georgetown University. Later, he taught and studied at various institutions, including the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto and the Dominican mother house in Rome. Survivors include three brothers, John Eris Powell and Jerome Powell, both of Chevy Chase, and F. DeSales Powell of Newton, Mass." If I am correct, MaryLou Sherwood may be the daughter of! W.T. Martin (my father's brother). There was an interesting religious divergence (?) between the Powell branch in the Washington area and the Martins of Maryland. The Martins were perhaps universally fundamentalist Protestants and rural while the Powells seemed to be Catholic and "big city" folks. If I recall the history correctly, Eris owned the Willard Hotel which is quite grand today (I was there some years ago) and of course is famous for the fact that Abraham Lincoln stayed there when he went to Washington, D.C. for his inauguration. He should have stayed there rather than going to the theater. Several years ago I spent some time doing a workup of all of these people. If it would be of interest I could send it to you--either in printed from which I could mail to you or perhaps in digital form. I used the Mormon program and would have to figure out how to export the file (Gedcom?). If you want it tell me what sort of computer file you can use and your e-mail ad! dress and I'll send it to you. Ed Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When and where was her second marriage; what was the name of her husband? Might Emma have taken the name of the step-father? One thing you might try, although it is extremely time-consuming because I don't know of a way to 'search' the files, is to look through the Pennsylvania Death Indicies records. These are listed year by year, but unfortunately the names are not alphabetical. http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1085804&mode=2 Beth Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was aware of where the Powell Family was during the 1930 census. Samuel & Lulu were my grandparents, Mary was my mother. She married 1931 to Purcell Washington and resided in Media, Delaware County, Pa. this union produced to children Sylvia, Nancy (Jean). I am 79 years old and have never heard of Emma, no one ever mentioned her name, my mother, grandmother aunts, no one, which I find very odd (but not for African Americans)I don't know if she is deceased or alive.
