Foe some of you looking for the name Lovelace,Tate. Killion. Davis. Powel. Look at the 1860 census in Grundy abd see if they connect , God Bless Wla
Missy, my Powells are from NC also. In all your material, have you ever seen an Amanda Powell? She married a Riley. Thanks, just couldnt pass up the opportunity to try. Phyllis J
Hi Missy....welcome aboard! It would help lots if you would give a location of where your Powells lived, or where they came from. That is...if you know. Also, a time frame or dates they lived. I also have Powells in my family who came down from Virginia to settle in the Edgefield district of S.C. Good luck in your research. And when you get discouraged, don't give up. Give it a rest and then go at it again. The reward is priceless !! Mike Researching......SAWYER/HALSTEAD/GRIFFIN/WILKES/HOWELL/LIGHTSEY/ZEIGLER and ABRAMS/POWELL/BLEDSOE/HOLMES/HILL.....
Craig, Thanks for the welcome. Lovely Abraham Powell was born about 1790 and some say NC and some say SC or even Georgia. To make it short here is how I relate. Lovely and Sarah "Sallie" Allen had George Washington Powell, he married Lucinda Willis and they had Granville Powell, Granville married Missouri Webb and they had Sallie Powell, Sallie married George Powell (they were related) and they had Ruby who is my mother. My sister used to do genealogy and she gave all of her stuff to me so I am taking it over. As far as I know most of my family once they came to Kentucky have stayed in Kentucky...around the Estill, Jackson and Madison Counties area. I know Lovely Abraham Powell had a lot of children and I was hoping to come in contact with some of those descendants too. Missy :)
Dear Missy, Could you provide a little more information about your Powell connection? Where were they from? What are the dates that you are presently researching? Welcome to the list... Do any of you know the children of Samuel POWELL (b abt 1700, from Shropshire, England) and his wife, Martha? They came to America in 1742 along with his brother Rev. Joseph POWELL (1711-1774) and his wife, Martha PRICHETT. They settled in Bethlehem, PA, and were known as the "English Moravians". Samuel operated the book store -- probably the oldest continuous one in existance. Both men were evidently well educated and active in the Moravian community but little seems to be known about Samuel's family life. Any info would be welcomed. Ellen
I'm looking for family of William Powell in 1860/70 MO. I'm in need of information on his daughter, Jane Powell, who married Elihu Hodge on 6/13/1875 in Cape Girardeau Co., MO. (rumor is that Jane was young, 15 or 16 when she married.) I believe that Jane was born in KY ca 1855-1860 but haven't been able to find her there. I do not have Jane's mother's name or siblings. I've just started tracing Jane so any information would be greatly appreciated. Ken
Thank you so much! This is my A. J. Powell and family. He was almost 81 when he died about 1908. The Obituary mention his "beloved wife" and then the names of his sons and three of the daughters (by married name only). Now I am wondering where I found the Mrs. H. M. Caldwell???? I have Andrew J. (Jackson?) Powell born 1827 in either Georgia or North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Mary ???. At this point I have 9? children. 6 of which I am not real sure of. All were born in Caldwell County, Kentucky and married there. Delilah Powell born 1866 married Robert Daniel Nichols in Caldwell County, Kentucky. John H. Powell born 1844 married Sarah E. Nichols, sister of Robert Daniel. Humphreys Powell born about 1870, appears to have never married. Then, I have 3 "daughter Powells" as per the will of Andrew J. Powell. They are listed as Mrs. William Miller, Mrs. H. M. Caldwell, and Mrs. M. P. Smith. I also have 3 daughters, Jennie D. born 1864, Mary E. born 1868, and Malissa born 1860 that I can not find marriages for. I believe that they are possible one and the same with the "daughter Powells", but who married who? Does anyone have any information on this family? Appreciate any help and will gladly share. Is there someone that uses Windows 2000 that can explain to me just how I would make notebook divider tab inserts? The sheets that came with the dividers had no instructions for using Windows 2000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
Do you mean Word 2000? Ed: Thanks for your response. Different companies charge different prices and offer different services. Contact Jim Barrett, a frequent contributor to this list, for more information. He can be contacted at parino@flash.net. He is the coordinator for the Powell Y-DNA project, I believe. I, personally, prefer FamilytreeDNA.com but the final choice is yours to make. My tests were about $225 - $235 but some tests are less expensive. I was able to completely rule out 5 other Powell lines I had been researching and, in so doing, probably saved a lot more in research/travel expenses this year than what the tests cost. Where does your Powell line originate from? Mine are from Laurens County and Washington County, Georgia in the 1840 - 1850 time frame. E-mail me privately if you want more information or if you want to exchange information.
