There was a William Lytle POWELL md Mary M. (maiden name Powell?) in 1825. His parents were Elias Powell and Elizabeth DAY. I have notes that in an 1840 census (don't have which one) he had 3 daughters; in an 1850 census he was in Marengo Co, AL and there was also a Mary A. MOORE living there (the Mary M. above?). This is not my direct line but I have more information somewhere if this is who you are looking for. However, this William did not have a brother James. Hi Daryl I am a "double' Powell My Paternal Powell family came from Tipperary or County Cork. The emigrated to London Township, Middlesex County, Ontario,Canada in the early 1800s. Many descendants (including my branch) still live in the area. My Maternal Powell family came from County Armagh, Northern Ireland. They emigrated, about 1815, and settled in Elizabethtown Township. Leeds County, Ontario, Canada. Several of their descendants still live in that area as well. I don't think there was any connection between the two Powell families at least in Ireland.
