---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Lumberport resident Freda Mae Powell dies at age 103 SHINNSTON -- Freda Mae Powell, 103, of Lumberport, died at 6:55 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the home of her daughter following an extended illness. She was the last surviving member of her immed- iate family. She was born June 29, 1900, at Lambert's Run, a daughter of the late Virgel Lee and Nettie Alice Shreve Drummond. Mrs. Powell was married on July 29, 1933, to Mr. Raymond Powell, who died November 4, 1978. She is survived by twin daughters, June Barker of Lumberport and Jean Harbert and her husband Jerry of Enterprise; 6 grandchildren, Cheryl Barker, Lumberport, Randy Barker and his wife Penny, Lumberport, Melissa Hardman and her husband Darren, Lumberport, Jeff Harbert and his wife Melissa, Shinnston, Jay Harbert and his wife Melissa, Shinnston, Jay Harbert and his wife Vicki, Lumberport, and Jon Harbert and his fiancé Tina Walstrum, Shinnston; 8 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Barker, Lumberport, Dale Davis and his wife Missy, Lansing, Michigan, Kayla, Lauren, Daniel and Dalton Hardman, Lumberport, and Jacob and Sydney Harbert, Lumberport; 1 great-great-grandson, Will Davis, Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by her brother, Emory Drummond; her 2 sisters, Mabel Wright and Thelma Williams; and her son-in-law, Charles E. Barker. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery. Looking for information on the family of John and Johanna POWELL. Part of them came to America on the Ship Laurel from Ireland in 1848. William's and George's information say they were from County Limerick. Edward's death certificate says he was born in County Cork, but it might have been in error. They spent a year in the Buffalo, N. Y. area then came to Chicago. They are in the 1850 Census in Chicago. Their five boys were William (b. 1827), Giles (b. 1830), John Jr., Edward (b. 1832), and George (b.1841). Edward Lee POWELL and his family later lived at 310 S. Halsted Street in Chicago, Illinois from the 1850s through the early 1880s. He lived near William POWELL who was at 198 Mather. Their brother George lived across the street at 307 S. Halsted. The brothers are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, Ill. Any information on these families would be appreciated. I do have more information and would be willing to share. Thank you in advance. Born about 1844 in Rutherford, Tennessee, John H. Powel married Sarah E. Nichols.born about 1845 also born in Tennessee. They married in 1867. I have two children for them. William J. Looking for any information on brothers, William and James Powel/Powell. They both were in Cape Girardeau MO during the 1860 census but supposedly had come from IL. Mary Powell, d/o William, married Elihu Hodge in 1875 and stated she was born in IL in 1859.
