With all the postings on POWELL in Culpeper County, Virginia, I remembered that I had purchased a copy of 'Genealogical and Historical Notes on Culpeper County, Virginia', compiled by Raleigh Travers Green. This source deals with Dr. Philip Slaughter's History of St. Mark's Parish, and has a number of POWELLs listed, mostly Ambrose POWELL. I will list the references below (Note - I have capitalized the surnames), however, I do not think it proper to type the whole reference, as this book is currently available for purchase. I will gladly look up any name(s) or supply information on how to purchase a copy. Page 15 - "1762. Sept. 1st. Wm. POLLARD was elected clerk of the Lower Church. An order of Bromfield Parish being exhibited by Ambrose POWELL and Martin NALLE, gentlemen of the vestry of said parish, to join them in the division of the two parishes, it is ordered that the same lie for the further consideration of the vestry. From this entry it would seem that although the two parishes had been separated for ten years, the parish lines had not been run. Dec. 18th, 1762, at a vestry at Little Fork Church the usual routine business was gone through, and Henry Field and Benjamin ROBERTS made churchwardens for the ensuing year." Hello List, William Powell appeared in an article of a newspaper in 1833, in Madison, Jefferson CO. IND.. This article stated , Williams father was Levin H. Powell of Union, Loudoun Co. VA. It also mentions other family members. There was no mention of Williams age in the article, but the only William Powell listed here in 1830 appears to have been bo before 1807 when Levin H. Powell married Elizabeth Cohagean of Loudoun VA. If he was a son of Levin H. Powell he had to be of an earlier union than the 1807 one. Other sibs of William are identified in the article, which is why I am sure I have the right Levin H.Powell. If Levin H. was not married prior to 1807, the children identified must have been illig..I do not have definite proof, but I am 99.9% sure this William and Levin H. Powell are sib and parent of my 3rd.grt.grandfather Peyton Powell bo 1787 VA. I would be happy to exchange info . ( I have more) with possible cousins, or whomever. Marianne, Walter Powell does not appear to be of any of those three branches. Walter was among fourscore persons transported to VA [from England] by Capt. Samuell Mathews abt Aug 1643. Capt. Matthews in 1643 was granted 4,000 acres on the Rappahannock River. Walter went to LancasterCo, in 1643. After birth of first child in AccomacCo, VA, Walter and his family were transported to SomersetCo, MD by Jeffrey Menshall to whom Walter deeded the 150 a. he had received from Lord Baltimore as immigration land-rights, per deed dated 9 July 1671. I have been searching for the parents of Berry Henderson Powell. Berry Henderson Powell was born March 04, 1854 in Jackson County, Kentucky, and died May 02, 1936 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. He married (1) Nancy Ann Evans October 29, 1874 in Jackson County, Kentucky, daughter of Henderson Evans and Lydia Moore. She was born February 14, 1859 in Jackson County, Kentucky, and died May 25, 1941 in Kentucky. He met (2) Sarah Belle Sea 1876. She was born Abt. 1855 in Kentucky. Children of Berry Powell and Nancy Evans are: i. Martha Powell, born March 27, 1875 ii. John Powell, born February 21, 1878 Iii . William Powell, born December 21, 1880 iv. Sarah Powell, born January 12, 1882 v. Lydia Powell, born November 14, 1883 vi. Alexander Powell, born March 05, 1889 vii. Bronston Anderson Powell, born May 10, 1892 viii. Madison Powell, born February 11, 1894 Child of Berry Powell and Sarah Sea is: i. Jaily Ann Sea, born December 1876. On the 1860 and 1870 Census he is listed as Berry Miller. Jackson County, Kentucky Marriages, 1858-1892, Nancy's last name becomes Miller when married to Barry Miller (Diana Covey Frymyer & Lois Barnes, JacksonCoKY Marr. Ext., marriage of Berry Miller to Nancy Ann Evens.) On the 1880 census, Berry’s last name is Powell. I have not seen any documentation yet as to his parentage and would appreciate any info or ideas.
