    1. Hello, everyone. I hope you can help me!
    2. Wayne Lyon
    3. Hello, everyone. I hope you can help me! Please let me start by putting up a bit of a family tree for me. I have a whole lot of history and have a tendency to ramble, so maybe this will keep it shorter. Linda Lyon Father: James Anthony, born in 1919, Reith, Oregon Grandfather: Eble January Anthony, born Jan. 2, 1892 at Fossil, Oregon Gr. Grandfather: Dominick Arneto Anthony, born March 20, 1851 at Madrid, Spain His first wife, Martha, born 1845 and died on Dec. 2, 1889 in Fossil, Oregon. His second wife, was Elisabeth Belldora Redshaw, born on May 7, 1864 in Iowa. She was a neice to Martha, so that would give us some clues as to what her last name may have been and where she may have been born. Elisabeth Belldora Redshaw had married Simon P. Ward on March 29, 1883 in Mahaska Co., IA. She lost him and was going through the grief of his loss, when Dominick traveled from Oregon back to Martha's family to tell them about her death. In consoling one another, they fell in love, married, and Elisabeth Belldora moved to Oregon with her husband Dominick. They had children: Eble January 1891, Loren 1894, James 1896, Ena 1899, and an infant daughter who didn't survive whose initials were FA 1902. They had moved from Fossil, to a home next to the Columbia River and the mouth of the Deschutes River, where Dominick ran a ferry business. In 1900 they moved to the near by town of The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon. He passed away on March 25, 1904 Gr. Grandmother: Elisabeth Belldora Redshaw, born May 7, 1864 in Iowa Her parents: Gr. Gr. Grandfather: Joseph C. Redshaw, born abt 1834 in Indiana Gr. Gr. Grandmother: Emily Jane Manary, born Sept. 28, 1841 in Indiana Her folks: Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandfather: Jonas Manary, born 1801 in Stoner, Bourbon Co., Kentucky Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandmother: Rebecca Powell, born abt. 1806 or 1807 in Indiana (I think) This is where it gets interesting and confusing. My gr. Aunt Ena had answered a letter from her granddaughter requesting information on the family tree for a history lesson that one of her daughters was in the middle of working on in school. So, Ena, wrote who her parents were and that her grandparents were Joseph C. Redshaw and Emily Jane Manary Redshaw and that they were both born in Indiana. That her gr. grandparents were born in Kentucky and Tennessee. After much research on the Manary surname, I thought I had reached a dead end. All of a sudden, Ancestry.com had listed the death certificate record number of Emily Jane Manary Redshaw. I was able to purchase it and found that Jonas Manary was the father and Rebecca Powell was the mother. I had been seeing family lines of Jonas Manary, so I wrote to one of the gals posting and found an unbelievable soap opera tale. I don't mean to speak ill of my gr. gr. gr. grandfather, but the facts are what they are. He married Mary Nancy Headleston on Aug. 10, 1822 in Nicholas Co. Kentucky and had three children. I do not know if she died or he left her, but he then married Nancy Jenkins on May 27, 1836 in Carroll Co. Indiana. He then married Jane Siebert on October 31, 1837 in Sangamon Co., Ill. He then married our Rebecca Powell who was a widow named Mrs. Rebecca Ellis on the marriage license. They had two children and when he left for Iowa, and Rebecca got on the wagon to go ! with him, he pointed a gun at her and told her she was not coming and to step down from the wagon. He took the son, Packson, with him along with his other three children from the very first marriage and left her the nursing Emily Jane Manary and took off for Iowa with yet another wife, Elizabeth Sarah Menard who he "married" on March 23, 1843. He never bothered to get a divorce from Rebecca. So, when Jonas had a fatal accident in 1852 and his obituary was printed in several of the newspapers of the towns he had lived in, Rebecca found out and with her now 8 year old daughter, Emily Jane Manary, came to Iowa to be a part of the probate hearings. It was very drawn out, but she eventually did win 1/3 of Jonas estate. The other 1/3 went to his last wife and the final 1/3 to his children. After Jonas death, Rebecca was free to marry again and married James Atchison on October 27, 1859 in Mahaska Co. Iowa. James was from Virginia and they think he was born around 1792. He ! died in Mahaska, Iowa on December 15, 1867. I would very much like to learn who Rebecca's parents were. Her daughter's death certificate states that her mother (Rebecca Powell) was born in Indiana. The gal who was helping me with a great deal of research and is a descendant of Jonas Manary the same way I am said in her notes she had Rebecca as being born in Indiana, too. However, my great Aunt thought she was from Tennessee and I had put that down in a lot of my searches, so now I believe Rebecca is listed on several of the geneology sites as being from Tennessee, but she may not have been. However, it does list her as being born in Tennessee in the 1860 census when she was listed along with her husband James Atchison in Mahaska Co., Iowa, so I don't know for sure where she was born. It does list her birth year as being either 1806 or 1807. If any of these dates and places rings a bell with any of you out there, please let me know. I was also trying to find more information about my Rebecca Powell from the angle of her first marriage to a Mr. Ellis that would have had to take place before Sept. 1838, but I am not seeing anything that matches precisely. So, the key points are, Rebecca Powell born 1806 or 1807 in Indiana or Tennessee, married before 1838 to an ELLIS and then on Sept. 12, 1838 to Jonas MANARY in Morgan Co. IL and then on October 27, 1859 to James ATCHISON in Mahaska Co., Iowa. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. Sincerely, Mrs. Linda Lyon

    2. Harold, May I send you a scanned document and you take a look at it? It was a demand made of a William Eltonhead for land for the transportation of a John Hollingsworth and another gentleman. The person who posted it stated another name but I see it as Walter Powell. I would love someone else to view it and tell me if I am correct. I descend from William Powell and Eleanor Peyton Sincerely, Linda Sue

    3. Jennifer: I have Lucy H. Powell (b March 25, 1782 Virginia) (d July 11, 1858 Georgia) She married Elias Billingsley (b. North Carolina) and they had David, John, Evelina, Thomas, James, Sarah, Mary, Harriet, & Marcus. I thought that there may be a sibling relationship between your Robert and my Lucy. Do you have any clues? 3. Jennifer, saw your message. I have an Amanda Powell who married Samuel Riley here in NC. Her father is supposed to be Ed Powell. I am wondering if Ed could be short for Edley, since I cant find an Ed. It looks like she has a brother John, and mother Sarah. Have you ever seen a connection with Riley family? Thanks, Phyllis J
