I'm here in California, but now you mention it, I haven't received much lately either. Is our List Mother in Florida? Some lists are being delayed because of the weather. Hi, please tell me about your Crawford family from Virginia. I have Martin Crawford, daughter Elizabeth in Rockingham county, Va. Lizabeth married John McDaniel. Thanks, P Jacobs
Hello, Re: BARNETT, FIELDER, PEAVEY?, LEWIS, BENGE GRESHAM/GRISHAM, POWELL, MICKELBOROUGH I have reason to believe there is a possible BARNETT connection for my husband's paternal BARNETT - FIELDER lineage and my maternal POWELL - GRESHAM/GRISHAM lineage that may possibly include BARNETT lineage but not sure yet. My husband and I both descend from the LEWIS, MARTIN, CRAWFORD lines out of -1600s-1700s Virginia. The connecting BARNETT family may have been in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in the late 1700-early 1800s at the same time as the FIELDER and POWELL families and, possibly, connecting with a MICKELBOROUGH family as well. The earliest BARNETT I have for my husband and my 2 sons is his paternal 2nd great grandfather, Shadrach P. BARNETT, for whom I am searching any information regarding his parents or siblings. Shadrach P. BARNETT, born: April 13, 1826 poss. in Greene County, Georgia or was he, perhaps, born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia or was his family from Oglethorpe County, Georgia as was the family of his wife, Martha Ann FIELDER, shown below. Shadrach P. BARNETT died: April 04, 1896 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia. Trying to find any information on his parents or siblings. Martha Ann FIELDER, born: July 02, 1841 prob. in Oglethorpe County or Carroll County, Georgia, died: April 01, 1896 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia, (daughter of El(l)e(a)nor ?/PEAVY?, born: Abt. 1825 in ?, and James A. FIELDER, born: Bet. 1814-1815 in Farm Hill, Oglethorpe County, Georgia, who was the son of Sarah "Sally" LEWIS and Josiah/Jasciah FIELDER, born: 1791 in South Carolina, died: in ? in Meriwether County, Georgia, who was the son of Sarah "Sally" BENGE, born: 1757 in Virginia, died: 1830 in Morgan County, Georgia, who was the daughter of Elizabeth LEWIS, born: Abt. 1735 in Albermarle County, Virginia, died: Williams County, Tennessee or North Carolina, (who later married John L. FIELDER,) who married and divorced John "Old Trader" BENGE, born: Abt. 1735 in Albermarle County, Tennessee, died: Abt. 1800 in Georgia, (who later had a Cherokee marriage to Wurteh "Betsey" of the MOYTOY family, born: Abt. 1750 in Tslagi Town near/at Burnside, Kentucky, died: Abt. 1814 in Cherokee Nation East, whose 1st husband was Nathaniel GIST/GUEST/GUESS/QUEST and later she also married Cherokee "Bloody Fellow." My possible BARNETT connection with families of POWELL, GRESHAM/GRISHAM, and MICKELBOROUGH that may have Oglethorpe County, Georgia connections are: Barnett GRESHAM, born: Abt. 1787 in King & Queen Co., Virginia, died: Abt. 1830 in Lowndes County, Alabama, (son of Sarah LUMPKIN, born: Abt. 1740 in Halifax County, Virginia, died: in Indiana, (daughter of Elizabeth FOREST and Robert LUMPKIN, son of Mary CODY and George LUMPKIN, (son of Robert LUMPKIN, (son of Jacob LUMPKIN,))) and Sarah LUMPKIN's husband, John GRESHAM, Sr. (RS,) born: March 20, 1740 in King & Queen Co., VA, died: November 13, 1831 in Social Circle, Walton County, Georgia. Barnett GRESHAM married: Lucy POWELL, born: Abt. 1790 prob. in Virginia, died: Abt. 1818 either in Oglethorpe County, Georgia or Lowndes County, Alabama, and they married December 18, 1806 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, and she was the daughter of Edward POWELL, Jr., born: August 03, 1755 in Virginia, died: Abt. 1801 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, and wife, Mary HARDAWAY, born: , who were also the parents of several other children including Polly POWELL who married John MICKELBOROUGH/MICKELBROUGH. And this Edward POWELL, Jr. was the son of Edward POWELL, Sr., born: Bet. 1728-1735 in Virginia, died: Bef. 1798 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. This Edward POWELL, Sr. was the brother of John POWELL who married twice to wife # 1: Susanna "Suky" BELL and wife # 2: Boice GEE. Looking for any BARNETT family connection for Barnett GRESHAM. Barnett GRESHAM and Lucy POWELL were the parents of Jehu Madison GRESHAM/GRISHAM who may have also been called John and is found, at times, with the spelling of Jahu. Jehu Madison GRESHAM/GRISHAM married Elizabeth Ann FORD, daughter of Henry FORD and Mary BUCKLES/BUCKHOLTS who was the daughter of Mahala MIDDLETON and Abram BUCKLES/aka Abraham BUCKHOLTS, Jr., (son of (Major) Abraham BUCKHOLTS, Sr., (RS.)) This family group is found in Franklin County, Mississippi and Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi. Abram BUCKLES/BUCKHOLTS, Jr. married 2nd wife, Mrs. Nancy KILLIAN GALTNEY/widow of Abram/Abraham GALTNEY. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

Hi Linda, Sorry to take so long to respond. If, I see anything more, I will let you know. I don't have any Manarys or Redshaws, so 'breath' until something changes. This thing with my Powells gets even worse! I have found him born in three places now! North Carolina being the latest. I need to locate the Census where I found that and include it in my notes! I thought that I already had done that, but apparently not. It is always the same wife and children, so I know it is him. Will let you know though. Well now I am really getting confused. A. J., Andrew J., Jackson Powell, all married to Mary J., occupation Wagoner. In 1850 I find them with son John H. Powell living in Bedford County, Tennessee. The Census states everyone was born in Tennessee. One of the later Censuses, has them living in Caldwell County, Kentucky and A. J. born in Georgia. So now, where was he born and if he was indeed, born in Tennessee, does this help anyone with finding his parents? Where were they from? Georgia, Tennessee or????????? Virginia in Seattle
Hi Jan; My Powells were in Edgefield, SC at the same time (1790) as your Charles Powell. My GGGGGrandfather was John H Powell who was born in Duplin Co, NC in 1760 and migrated to the Edgefield area around 1780 were he fought in the American Revolution. I have suspected for a long time that your Charles, Nathaniel, Thomas, Lewis, George, John and other Powells in the area are all related but proving it has been a nightmare. I can send you some information on my Powell's if it would help. The more heads we have the better. Sam Powell

Hello Mary Gene, I have some info on your Ambrose Powell from Maury Co. Ten.. If you would like to get in touch with me, please write to my email address: springerpc@msn.com<mailto:springerpc@msn.com> Would also like to know if a Lewis R. Powell or a Pressly Powell is mentioned in June Orton's Book. Lewis was born in Va. 1792 and Pressly was born in Va. 1787. All records before this time are lost. Just wonder if your Ambrose might have been the brother's uncle, or related to him someway. Lewis had a son named Ambrose that moved from Walker Co. Ga. to Giles Co. Ten. between 1850 and 1860 in the Giles and Waliker Co. Census of 1860. Would like very much to hear from you. Will check out Burke Co. Va. to see if there is a match as to brothers of Ambrose, or uncles or nephews. There has to be a connection somewhere, because I have a picture taken of Lewis R. Poewll about 1860-1870 in Columbia, Maury Co. Ten. Am thanking you for any reply. Dear Jack, I have had marvelous success with people willing to share - here and on the Powell Forum of GenForum. Also other mailing lists and forums. There are many, many lines I have been able to receive information on that I would never have had the time to follow from California. Incidentally, I do try to contact all female surnames as well as male, and that is where I have had very good luck. My Powell line is back to the Ambrose who wass born c1754, probably Burke Co VA, and d 1827 in Maury Co TN. I have a book from June Powell Orton, recently deceased, which details many of his descandants. I am willing to relay this information to anyone who is related, although June had done such a good job of contacting us that I believe we all know who each other is. At this time I do not have any information on any of your Powells - no one is absolutely sure who Ambrose' ancestors are, although speculation is strong that they were John and Mary O'Neal Powell who left Culpeper Co VA and were in Orange Co NC by 1755, then to Burke Co NC c1779.
