    3. I am trying to trace the descendants of a Charles Powell who was my great grandmothers brother. Charles appears in the 1900 census for Schuylkill Co Borough of Shenandoah at 235 W Coal st. Charles left Brymbo NorthWales U.K. in 1865 and settled with some of his brothers in Shenandoah. he married and had the following children Emma , Samuel, Harry, Annie, Charles, Clayton and John Byron. I have a newspaper cutting of an obituary in 1971 of a Byron Powell. The age of this Byron ties in with the one that I am seeking. The 'obit' Byron was married to Elizabeth Baker and they had one son James and three daughters, Anna Powell, Martha Czyz and Jean Starr. he had worked for Philco Corp and lived at Ambler MOntgomery Co. I need to prove that this Byron was my Gt Gt uncle. Is there an online directory which may lead me to his grandchildren? I would also like to be able to trace a marriage certificate for him. Would his father's name be on it? I am not sure whether the system in the U.S. varies from oures in the U.K. Thanks Ann Evans

    3. Ann Evans, Could my family be related someway to Charles. My Great Grandfather was David Richard Powell, who married Clara Elizabeth Evans. His father was Benjamin Powell, married to Martha Owens--Benjamin was born in Wales in 1828 and died in 1886 in Shenandoah, Pa. My grandmother was Emma Powell. 2. Good morning to the ELLZEY, POWELL, BARNES, KNIGHT, COLLINS, LEWIS, ROBERTS, CHEAVES, CHEVIS, Mississippi county JONES and SC Edgefield and Orangeburgh lists, and North Carolina county of Duplin lists, To begin: Please, if you notice errors needing corrections and/or have anything to add to this information, please contact me through the lists shown and/or directly. (New connections, (for me anyway,) between ELLZEY family of Evan ELLZEY and Mary COLLINS? and the POWELL family out of 1700s Duplin Co., NC and Edgefield Co., SC into Twiggs Co., Early Co., and Crawford Co., Georgia that married into the ELLZEY family as well as possibilities of connecting with my POWELL line out of Virginia and Georgia that married into my GRESHAM/GRISHAM family that married my HATTEN/HATTON that married JONES that descends from McCARTY out of Edgefield Co., SC. (The POWELL information that is new to me that connects with the ELLZEY family is shown further below in this email and was originally from Sam POWELL and posted by GenWeb Archives.) Re: Evan ELLZEY, b: Abt. 1786 in SC/poss. Orangeburgh District/County/later Winton/Barnwell Co. where the MYRICKs were also from, d: Bef. 1870 prob. in Ellisville, Jones Co., MS, & wife, Mary COLLINS?, and children: Harriet(t) ELLZEY, b: 1824 in SC or Jones Co., MS, md: John LEWIS, b: Abt. 1820 in Jones Co., MS, (s/o Nancy COPELAND and Howell LEWIS, of Granville Co., NC) and Re: the family of John Hathorn POWELL, b: 1760 in Duplin Co., NC, who married Esther ? and were the parents of (Rev.) Hiram POWELL, b: 1797 in Edgefield Co., SC, md: # 1: Pennia BARNES & # 2: Rebecca CHEAVES/CHEVIS. (Rev.) Hiram POWELL & 1st wife, Pennia BARNES, were the parents of Rigdon POWELL, born: 1806 in Georgia, md: Nancy ROBERTS, (parents: ??,) and their son, James Madison POWELL, born: Abt. 1829 in Crawford Co., GA, md: Cynthia ELLZEY, d/o Evan ELLZEY and Mary COLLINS?, also parents of Harriet(t) ELLZEY who married John LEWIS, son of Nancy COPELAND and Howell LEWIS, with my descent being from Harriet(t) ELLZEY and John LEWIS. (There was more than one branch of this POWELL family in Ellisville, Jones County, Mississippi where my ELLZEY family was with both families coming out of South Carolina....the POWELLs were in Edgefield Dist./Co., SC.) Hello. My name is Bellinda MYRICK-BARNETT and I wanted to write regarding the new connections that I have found for the ELLZEY family with the POWELL family and others connecting here. While re-reading a letter from Carol ELSEY back on May 10, 2001, I noticed that Evan ELLZEY and Mary COLLINS?' daughter, Cynthia ELLZEY, had married James Madison POWELL, son of Rigdon POWELL and Nancy ROBERTS of Crawford County, Georgia, and that Rigdon POWELL's brother, Hiram POWELL, was born in Edgefield Dist./Co., SC so the names of MADISON, for the middle name of James Madison POWELL and the given name of Hiram for Hiram POWELL along with the surname of POWELL triggered possible connections in my mind. My paternal lineage is from the ELLZEY family in Jones Co., MS that married into my LEWIS-COPELAND-PARKER-JENNINGS-EARLE-HOLBROOK family group that married into my paternal MYRICK-PIERCE-HUNTER?/BOWLES?-HERRINGTON-GRANTHAM-STUCKEY-DICKENS family group that married into my HATTEN/HATTON-LOTT-LIGHTFOOT family group on several occasions including when my father, Billy Earl(e) "Bill" MYRICK, married my mother, Ethel LaVerne "LaVerne" SLAUGHTER, who was the daughgter of Louis Hector "Heck" SLAUGHTER and Mrs. Ethel Rosalie HATTEN WOMACK, (widow of Joseph Marion WOMACK,) who was the daughter of Cicero Lamkin HATTEN and Rodella "Della" JONES, d/o William Tunley JONES, (CSA,) and Martha Ann Caroline "Caroline" McCARTY. Martha Ann Caroline "Caroline" McCARTY was the daughter of Nancy SPRADLEY and Hiram McCARTY, born: July 23, 1811 in Edgefield District, SC, died: 1886 in Jasper Co., Mississippi, who was the son of Sarah WALKER and Alford/Alfred McCARTY of Edgefield District, SC. In addition, Cicero Lamkin HATTEN was the stepson of Zachariah Taylor "Zachary/Zack" FAITH, 2nd husband of Cicero's mother, Frances Ann GRISHAM, whose 1st husband was Lawrence M. HATTEN, (s/o William HATTEN, (1st coroner of Winn Parish, LA who later married 2nd wife, Anna "Annie" NETTLES,) and William's 1st wife, Frances Lucretia "Patsy" LOTT.) Frances Ann GRISHAM was the daughter of Elizabeth Ann FORD, (d/o Mary BUCKLES/BUCKHOLTS and Henry FORD of Natchez, Adams Co., MS and Franklin Co., MS,) and Jehu Madison GRISHAM/GRESHAM, born: 1815 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, died: 1861 in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. Just recently, I found out that Jehu Madison GRISHAM/GRESHAM was the son of Barnett GRESHAM, born: Abt. 1797 in King & Queen Co., Virginia, died: Abt. 1830 in Lowndes Co., Alabama, who married Lucy POWELL, born: Abt. 1790 in Virginia, died: Abt. 1818 prob. in Oglethorpe Co., Georgia, md: December 18, 1806 in Oglethorpe Co., Georgia. Lucy POWELL was the daughter of Mary HARDAWAY and Edward POWELL, Jr., born: August 03, 1755 in Virginia, prob. Albermarle Parish in Sussex County. There may not be any direct connection with this POWELL family but it is interesting that the given name of MADISON is present in this POWELL-GRESHAM/GRISHAM family group as well as the POWELL-ELLZEY family group as well as the connecting McCARTY family of Edgefield, SC and the given name of HIRAM along with the given name of HIRAM showing up in the POWELL family out of Edgefield, SC.....and looking to put together more of the pieces....somethings are more obscure but there other less obscure possibilities here. My ELLZEY descent is immediately below followed immediately by the information on the families of POWELL, John Hathorn, (Rev.) Hiram, and Rigdon, James Madison, etc.. Thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick-Barnett My ELLZEY descent is from: Evan ELLZEY & Mary COLLINS?, (as mentioned above) Harriet(t) ELLZEY & John LEWIS, (s/o Nancy COPELAND and Howell LEWIS, of Granville Co., NC) Rachael Moranda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS & 2nd?/3rd? husb: Spencer B. PARKER, (s/o Jeremiah "Jerry" PARKER & 2nd?/3rd? wife, Sarah "Sally" JENNINGS,) (Rachael Moranda "Randa/Randy" LEWIS said to have married under name of Moranda COLEMAN, (why?,) when she married two known husbands, John Wesley BRIGHT, and Spencer B. PARKER,) (And in earlier info Moranda's mother's name was shown in my immediate family as Karrie KNIGHT, (why?,) was this confusion with her mother, Harriet ELLZEY's 1st name of Harriet(t) with Karrie? and was the KNIGHT a confusion with BRIGHT, the name of the 1st?/2nd? husband of Rachael Moranda? or possibly something to do with the KNIGHT relations?) Allie Artimissa PARKER & James Martin "Jim" MYRICK, (s/o Harriet Katherine "Hattie" HERRINGTON & Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK) Billy Earl(e) "Bill" MYRICK & Ethel LaVerne "LaVerne" MYRICK, (d/o Ethel Rosalie HATTEN, (Mrs. Joseph Marion WOMACK, Sr.,) & 2nd husb: Louis Hector "Heck" SLAUGHTER, (1st wife: Mrs. Callie Martha MUNN ADAMS, (widow of Sam A.?/V.? ADAMS,) (2nd wife: Mary LEE) Bellinda MYRICK link/url: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/talbot/bios/powell.txt Talbot Crawford County Georgia Bios Hiram Powell File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by SamsPAD@attbi.com Sam Powell Table of Contents page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/talbot.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm Hiram Powell was influential in Baptist Churches throughout this area of Georgia. 3. I descend from POWELLs who lived in (West) Virginia -- Hampshire/Hardy County. Joseph POWELL (c 1730-1771) and Christina/Christen FRY (1733-aft1770). They had a large family, many of them went to Ohio by 1815 or thereabouts -- i.e., at least the ones I've traced. They seem to have many intermarriages with persons of Dutch (Holland, i.e.) descent. Also, close connections with some of the Moravians. The FRYs appear to be in both camps. 3. Hi, Hugh! When was your Martha Powell born and where? I am related to a Martha Powell who was born around 1806 or 1808 in Tennessee. I see there is a Marth Powell in the 1820 census in Rutherford, Tennessee who would have been 45 years old and up wards. She had one daughter who was between 10 and 15 and two more who were between 16 and 25. I just began tracking this family, as I do believe my gr. gr. gr grandmother was possibly this 10 year old. I have come across other Martha Powell along the way. Is your Martha a woman of color or white? We are white, but I have found both in my searches. Let me know the dates for your Martha Powell and I'll keep a watch out for her. Sincerely, Linda Lyon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Smith" <hvs3431@mikrotec.com> To: <POWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 18, 2004 9:31 AM Subject: [POWELL] Powell's of WV > I am looking for Martha A.
