Just a thought: Maybe there are two Abraham Powells in the same family. I have a great grandfather, Edward Powell, who had two daughters named Ellen. They both died and he named another Mary Ellen. Mary Ellen lived. My husband has an ancestor who named three of his sons, John, Jonathan, and Jack. They all lived and had families. Does anyone know of a William Powell, born 1794 in Va., married Wilmoth Wade about 1824. I found them in Tishomingo Co. Miss. in 1840. In 1860, Wilmoth was still in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi, near her brother, my great grandfather, but William had died by then. Children of Wilmoth & William were: R. J. Powell born 1825 (R. J. married Malinda abt. 1848) Female about 1830 Asa Powell born 1831 in Tn. Edward Powell born 1832 Female about 1833 Elizabeth born 1836 Female about 1837 Henry C. Powell born 1839 in Miss. (Henry was a farmer according to the Tishomingo Co. Miss. census of 1860.) William P. Powell born 1844 in Miss. Anything familliar? ...Betty in Texas

Ellen, you are welcome to post any query you want to to the list. I think that it is better to have some activity than no activity at all. Let's hear from some of the rest of you out there. I may as well throw my Abraham Powell in here, too. I'm hoping someone has his line.. He was born 1823 in what we believe to be Pendleton District, SC and moved to Macon Co; NC. Abraham married Millie Ann Patterson. Its likely that his parents were Joseph Powell and Elizabeth??. Does any of this sound familiar? I agree, if several people are participating I don't mind your discussions. This is not my Powell line, but I hoping I might see some little clue that might be of interest to me. My line is through Rowland Powell, (b. 1730/1 d. 1801 in Vermont) and his wife Mary Ann Richardson. If anyone is researching this line maybe we can begin our own discussion. ----- Original Message ----- From: "meeem" <meeem@sbcglobal.net> To: <POWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 18, 2004 10:56 AM Subject: Re: [POWELL] Anthony Wayne POWELL > This is the central place where we can share the research information for > all who have become interested..... isn't that why we're here? > If the subject has to be taken offline it then condenses communication > down > to 2-people and makes it too difficult to bring things together. > This just happens to be the only thing being posted right now. > Hannah Powell > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ellen L Martin" <elmartin@localnet.com> > To: <POWELL-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, December 18, 2004 6:39 AM > Subject: Re: [POWELL] Anthony Wayne POWELL > > >> Now that you've found others who are interested in this particular line, >> isn't it about time to take the discussion off list to pound out the >> nitty-gritty details? Now that you've found others who are interested in this particular line, isn't it about time to take the discussion off list to pound out the nitty-gritty details? From Melinda...... My line is through Rowland Powell, (b. 1730/1 d. 1801 in Vermont) and his wife Mary Ann Richardson. If anyone is researching this line maybe we can begin our own discussion. From Hannah: My Powell line never made it into Yankee territory.. but there is a Rowland Powell in South Carolina .... I wonder if he moved to Vermont?
I have abstracted the Powells from the 1850 Gordon Co., GA census. The results may be seen at http://home.flash.net/~parino/1850-census.htm . If you know of connections between these families please let me know. Thanks. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX
This is the central place where we can share the research information for all who have become interested..... isn't that why we're here? If the subject has to be taken offline it then condenses communication down to 2-people and makes it too difficult to bring things together. This just happens to be the only thing being posted right now. Here's what I have from 1. My research 2. Helen's research 3. Yvonne's research 4. Jane Foley's research I'm still trying to figure out Anthony's life before 1848/49..... Notes: Buried beside "Wayne Powell (1812-1908)" in Valley Cemetery is "Nellie Powell (1844-1906)" It would seem that this should be Elenar of the 1850 census who was born about 1824 AL (census). "Nellie" in the cemetery was supposedly born in 1844. Researchers for this family say that Anthony had a 2nd wife named "Mary". My first instinct would be that he only had the one wife Elenar "Nellie" and that the cemetery record transcription below is an error with the birthdate that should be 1824 instead of 1844. If there was a sp2-named Mary, she may have fitted in somewhere between 1906-1908. Powell born 1849. Anthony has just started a family...... or is it a new family....I can't make any sense of him before 1850. In 1830 an "A. Powell" signed the census returns for Blount County, AL. Researchers say: Anthony and wife Mary moved in 1870's to Sevier County, Arkansas...... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now GUESS what Curtis Powell named one of his sons.... Anthony Wayne Powell...... and Curtis can't figure out how he came up with that name....Now for Benjamin..... I might have another theory too..............I 'll send this first... can't find my message about Jonathan Winchester Powell who also showed up in Sequoyah County... a younger one than George's son J.W.Powell who was born 1822 in ALBlount- ..... but the name is too strange not to be related. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ G. Yvonne, I have Joanna E. Powell listed as 5th child of Anthony Wayne and Mary ? Powell. Could her middle name be Effy or Eleanor? My line comes thru her sister Nancy Jane Powell. I have been to the same cemetery where they are buried in Sevier Co., AR. Still trying to sort this all out. Can ANYONE put some parents names on these Abraham Powells? This will help a bunch. I can't have Anthony Wayne Powell as having two sons named Abraham. There are just too many A. W. Powells. I don't find these people at all in my list. Does anyone know what the initials stand for and what branch of the tree they come in on? Well, the mystery thickens! Very Interesting! But still can't figure it all out. All I have heard of before is that Mary Unknown was the wife of Anthony Powell. No one seems to know her last name. The last few days everyone has only mentioned that Eleanor is his wife. Could they be one in the same, Mary Eleanor or Eleanor Mary? Does anyone know where this Pleasant T. Powell comes in on the family tree? Dickey, can you give me the rest of the children for Abraham W. and Nancy L. Powell? I would also like more information on Miles Powell. It seems as though there are 2 of those too. One having parents Abraham and Nancy Powell and the other George A. and Elizabeth Kirksey Davis Powell. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks for all of the information and your help in trying to sort it all out. I think you have things mixed up just a little. It is true that Anthony Wayne Powell is the son of James and Rebecca Powell and that he has a son George Washington Powell born 1849 (my line). But that is where the similaries end. George's wife was Sarah Jane Byers. Or, did you mean that Abraham's wife was Eleanor?
