My POWELLs were near-by in Champaign Co, OH,. when yours arrived in Clark Co, OH. Until about 1816/17 a large part of Clark Co belonged to Champaign Co, but I don't think that any of my line settled in that part. Likely, however, that some moved across the line at some point though. It's also within the realm of possibility that my Joseph POWELL, b abt 1730, place unknown, could have Pennsylvania connections -- his wife's family were from Germantown, and they were living in what was to become Mobrgomery Co., PA, about the time of her birth (c 1733). Hi Marge Campbell, You wrote that you have a Powell line in Chester Co, PA. Does that line have any "William"s born around 1775-85? I'm looking for a William Powell who served in the War of 1812. His enlistment papers say he was born in Pennsylvania. He enlisted at Charlestown, VA and lived in Loudoun Co, VA. His wife's name was Mary (..?..) and his children were Levin b. 1807, Colvin b. 1809 and Mary Ann b. 1811. He died in Genesee Co, NY in Oct 1813 while serving with the 12th Inf Reg, US Troops. By 1829 all 3 children were living in Belmont Co, OH . . . .where they all married. Sure hope this info matches with your line . . . .or someone's! Regards, Merna McClenathen
I am looking for the parents of Dennis Powell who was born in Lee Co. GA around 1830 or 1831. I am told that these Powells came from Johnston Co. NC to GA. The powells from my line are listed in many places in GA (worth co., lee co., twiggs co., chatham co, laurens co., colquitt co., decatur co.). I have heard that Nathan & Margaret (Gamble) Powell were the parents of Dennis Powell. I believe Nathan's parents were Nathan & Nancy (Ingram) Powell. I think Jesse & Liddy Powell are the parents of Nathan Powell Sr. I know there is a will in Johnston Co. which lists Jeremiah & Nathan (Sr.) Powell. Any additional info on this family would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to prove that Nathan & Margaret (Gamble) are the parents of Dennis Powell. Thanks, Shannon

I have a Samuel Powell, b. Chester County PA. 1823, came to Clark County Ohio about 1843, and died there 1900. He had a brother Allen Powell in Clark County and a brother Thomas W. THE NORTH CAROLINA GAZETTEER A Dictionary of Tar Heel Places By: William S. Powell CREATION OF NEW NORFOLK The County of NORFOLK was created in 1636 by authories in Virginia to give Henry Frederick Howard , Lord Maltravers, a specific area for his proposed settlement. Maltravers in 1632 acquired the Heath Grant (see CAROLANA).This new county extended from about the site of present Suffolk County, VA. To New Bern, NC. It was into the area that the earliest settlers of what is now North Carolina began to move from Virginia. The County of Norfolk was soon divided into Upper Norfolk and Lower Norfolk counties, with the latter containing the region which later became a part of North Carolina. CAROLANA, a province proposed to be established in America and named in the charter of King Charles I to Sir Robert Heath, 30-Oct-1629. The province was to extend from 31 degrees to 36 degrees north latitude along the Atlantic Ocean and presumably west to the Pacific Ocean. No settlements were made, and the charter was considered vacated in 1663 when CAROLINA was granted to Eight Lord Proprietors by King Charles II of England in his own honor. CAROLINA was applied to the region between Florida and the Virginia Colony and extending from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
