Hi everyone. Listed below is my known ancestry beginning circa 1700s in Wales through my grandfather, born in 1879 in Cincinnati, OH. Any information or suggestions greatly appreciated. Information about all events in Wales (circa 1788-1840) is derived from a family history believed to have been written at or near Cincinnati, Ohio US circa late 19th to early 20th century by sisters Mary and Elizabeth Powell. The family history appears to be based on the sisters' recollection of what they were told of events by their parents or their own recollections. Have found possible parish record matches for marriages listed. Information about U. S. events is from family history and some public records. Family history contains additional information relating to US descendents. ************ Thomas Powell b.? ,Wales d.? , Butler County, Ohio US (emigrated to US after death of his first wife in Wales, preceding his adult sons sometime before circa 1830) First married in Wales (date/parish unknown) to Mary Watkins b. ?, Wales d. ? , Wales Children Thomas Powell (Jr.) b. ?, Breconshire d. ? , At sea enroute to Philadelphia, PA to join adult sons in US circa 1820-1840 John Antrim Powell b. Hi Katie Not sure - she came from the same area, I think. Tough old lady - George left her and remarried - she married another fellow and she lived to be 108 before she died. Haven't really been able to trace her but have had clues that led back to SC. Will get all my things out and we'll compare what we have and what Alice has (George's niece) and get back with you asap. Nice to have someone else working on this line. Joan

Hi Marylee This is definitely my line - lost them at my gggrandfather George Pouncey Powell married Mary Lee Jordan. Knew they came from SC. His son Allen Benjamin married Florence Edna Mashburn. Family names include a son Jasper James, an Allen Benjamin Jr. and eight others. So, we are on the same trail to SC - have a descendent of a sibling of George working too, we've been stuck - haven't done any genealogy work in almost a year but am about to get started again. Will be back in touch - perhaps the three of us can resolve this once and for all. Joan (Polly) Powell Knoxville, TN

Apparently she was living when her husband died (I have 1708). Most likely at such a young age, she would have remarried. I have the same children that you name with Rose md to Thomas Evans and Sarah to William Massey. Nothing more. My husband descends from Catherine's brother John who md Sarah Yeardly. While this list is so active, I'd like to know if any of you have ever researched Samuel POWELL, the English Moravian, who came to America in 1742 and settled near Bethlehem, PA. His wife's name was Martha, and his brother was a renown missionary named Joseph POWELL (wife was also named Martha). Most important -- Did Samuel have any children? A great deal has been written about Samuel and his brother, but I've never found much about Samuel's family. I suspect he had a son named Joseph who probably came to America as a child but I find no proof. Also, what happened to Samuel's wife? I find nothing except that she came to America with him. Ellen
Is this the same Thomas Peter Powell who was the son of James Powell? James Powell was born around 1802. There are a few posts on rootsweb.com from a James T Godwin, which seems to indicate that Thomas Peter Powell descends from the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe. James Godwin's great great grandfather was Thomas P Powell (b. 1831). James Godwin belongs to the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe, Tama Tribal Town, Whigham, Georgia. After going over the census at ancestry.com, the evidence suggests that Thomas Peter Powell, born January 1831, was the son of James Powell and Lucinda Ashmore of Marion county, GA. Sarah Frances Swain was his wife and the marriage was recorded in Marion in 1852. Has anyone done further research on James Powell of Marion county? I cannot find a recorded gravesite for him in Marion county. Also, one other researcher who contacted me stated that his ancestor a sister to one of mine was of native american descent. I don't find any evidence of that unless there is something prior to the 1840's. Please let me know if you are working on this family. Cathy Mayfield
