Surnames: POWELL, FREUND Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WOBBAIB/5189.1 Message Board Post: Benjamin Powell is buried at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. There is nothing else engraved on his headstone except the words “Col 7 Wis Inf”. I have posted obituaries for John Powell and his wife Caroline nee Freund. They were married by Judge Hahn of Marshfield. John’s obit states he was born in Plainfield and moved to Marshfield as a young boy, yet Benjamin and Jane were listed in the 1880 U.S. census living in Marshfield. Alice Lillia Emma Powell was born 26 Jun 1906 and baptized 6 Jan 1907 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt, Wood County, and Esther Katharina Emilia Powell was born 30 Oct 1909 and baptized 13 Feb 1910, also at Immanuel. According to the 1910 U.S. census Caroline had a third child before 1910, but there is no record of his/her baptism or burial at Immanuel. Other Powell burials at Hillside include Henry A (17 Oct 1911 – 4 Oct 1981) and Robert E – Wis. A 1st Cl US AF (9 Oct 1939 – 18 Mar 1967). I am not related to this family nor do I have more information on the Powells. However, Caroline’s parents and grandparents also lived in the Marshfield area and I have more information on them if you are interested.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WOBBAIB/5198 Message Board Post: I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on the ancestry of William S. Powell, who was in the Marengo and Wilcox County Alabama areas in the early 1800s. His daughter Margaret married Francis Bridges. I don't know anything about his wife, his parents, or what happened to him. It appears that he may have been predeceased by his wife and that he died while the children were still young. I have a theory that his wife might have been a daughter of Arthur J. Kimbrell, because probate records indicate that Arthur Kimbrell took the children in.

    1. Name meaning: SHULLOMOTH
    2. Peter Powell
    3. Hi All, I am a comparative newcomer to family history research but thought that I might add something to the interesting exchanges that took place rather a long time back now concerning Shullomoth Powell. I can't offer anything new on the origins of the name but she was baptised Shelomith Roades on 6 April 1798 in Launton, Oxfordshire, UK according to OFHS PR Transcripts. Other records of her name include Shelometh and, of course, Shullomoth. In the 1851 Census she is shown as Elizabeth and in the 1861 Census as Susan. Perhaps she became tired of explaining how to spell Shullomoth! From her marriage to William Powell there were ten children, none with unusual names and, so far, no indication that Shullomoth was passed on. She died in 1865 and her headstone still stands in the churchyard of St Peter's Bucknell. Frustratingly, it is inscribed simply S. POWELL so fails to perhaps confirm the correct spelling let alone the origin of the name. Peter Powell

    3. I am interested in the children of William Thomas Powell b.1841, King's Sutton, Northampton and Jane Howard b.1844, Thorpe, Surrey (married 1875) particularly the following: Frederick Arthur b. 1871 Ann Beatrice b. 1872 Edith b. 1877 Frances Jane b. 1880 Florence b. 1881 All were born in Thorpe/Egham/Surrey and appear there on the 1891 Census. I believe that in 1898/9 Frederick, Edith and Florence were living at 5 Hastings Street, Euston Road, London. My attempts to locate any of them on the 1901 Census have so far failed completely and I would be interested to learn if anyone out there has any information that might assist me. They ended up settling in Straight Bayou (Sharkey County). Kate had 2 younger sisters who died very young from some disease. She had a brother RJ and a sister named Mattie. I wish I would have talked to her more before she died about her growing up, but it seemed like something she didn't want to talk about. Please let me know if you might have any connections to this George W. Powell.
