Hello: Are there any Powell researchers who had family that followed this route? They were in Pemiscot Co., MO, during the Civil War (1860 census). William Powell, b. TN abt. 1835; had children then of James (b. 1856) and Permelia (b. 1859). There might've been a Louis Powell too, a brother to Wm. A widow, Elizabeth Powell (likely William's mother) married Andrew ALTSMAN; she had a daughter, Caroline (b. TN, abt. 1845). They were in Independence Co., AR, in 1870 census. I've lost this couple after this census. They became estranged from the remaining Altsman son (my gr grandfather, James), and I think they followed the wife's Powell children..... There's also a William Powell in Independence Co., AR, in 1870; b. TN with "approx" age range. Children in that household were William S., Thomas M., John L., Edna S., and Hilbert/Hirbert (?) I also found a William Powell in Van Buren Co., AR, in the 1880 census (don't know if he's the right William, but age and place of birth match up as does a sister named Caroline living with him; plus, VBC is where an Altsman is found; but, children listed then were George, Catharine, Joseph, and Wesley....so this doesn't sound right). According to some correpondence with James M. Atlsman (would've been William's step-brother), at least some of William Powell's children were living in Waxahatchie, TX, around 1909-10. Dennis was born in Lee Co. GA around 1831. I am trying to find the names of his parents and siblings. I believe his parents were from NC. I believe he had a brother named Nathan Powell and a cousin or brother named Daivd Byrd Powell. It is interesting that you have a John Byrd Powell listed in your line as well. There is an 1860 census which list other POWELLs living close to Dennis, so I think he may be related to them. Dennis Powell married Elizabeth Bozeman. Do any of these names sound familiar to you? Is Dennis in your line? 1860 Census has the following: 148-125 Byrd Powell age 39, male, farmer, born in North Carolina. His family is: Sarah, age 39, female, born in Georgia. His family is: Jane age 26 female, b. Ga. Sarah I don't have a lot on the Ingram family. I have a Nancy Ingram who married Nathan Powell around 1790. Nathan died in 1803 in Twiggs Co. GA. Nancy had a brother Needham (born around 1776) who married a Nancy King and both died in Hardeman Co. Nancy Ingram's parents were Joseph and Alice (Jernigan) Ingram. There is also a Kader Powell(1754-1754), son of Isaac Powell who married Hester Ingram. Shannon

Shannon, Thanks for your answer. This is the line of the Granthams which is all honesty, my daughter is doing and she is moving and packing right now. I don't have as much data as she does but I will look at what info I have again. I joined the POWELL group looking for a distant cousin and didn't find her. I am glad you are enjoying the photo CD I made from Granddad's photographs. Every time I would go home on leave, he and I would sit down at the dinning room table and he would talk to be about the pictures. About five years before he died, I videotaped him telling me all of his stories about growing up. It was wonderful and I have started transcribing it. Someday, I hope to have a complete transcript. Unfortunately, the videotape got damaged when our basement flooded during a hurricane that passed through a couple of years ago. Mom has a good copy but it is second generation and I cannot make good copies from it. The sound track is good so I believe I can get a good transcription of his stories. Yes, I am Ed and Louise's eldest son but I have been away from FL for many years just like you. I was in the Air Force and then a federal civil servant for many years. Now I am retired but still not living in FL. I was down there when Hurricane Charley hit and Mom's house was badly damaged. I heard your mom was going to build a new house near Ken and Eileen. I was down there for about a week recently but did not get to stop by and visit since our schedule was so busy. I think I met you once when you were very young but I wouldn't expect you to remember. Samuel married Elizabeth ALKIRE, daughter of Rev John ALKIRE and Susan or Susannah NEFF or NATION on 25 Sep 1809 in Franklin Co, OH. Elizabeth was born in 1798, prob in VA. She died in 1855. Second Generation 2. Samuel POWELL was born on 9 Sep 1755/1760 in Hampshire Co, VA (now WV). He died on 3 Oct 1823 in Urbana twp, Champaign Co, OH. He married #1 Sarah RANDALL on 3 Jul 1783 in VA. 3.
