    1. [POWELL] Looking for the family of one Enos S. Powell, Sr., b. 1832 in Ill.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: SteveL1990 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.powell/7182/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hey fellas. This particular person was one of my 3rd great grandfathers and I'd like to know if anyone's tracked down his parents at some point. If it helps, he married a lady named Esther, who later bore him at least one kid, Enos, Jr., who himself married one Anna May Wright, and had a few children, including my great-grandpa Ralph, in Iowa in 1893. Any help appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His Catherine Ann Powell married John Norwood and they resided in Simpson County, Mississippi. Breakthrough data is provided in the "Family Tree of Bill Norwood" posted online. In the will of John Powell, Catherine's father, William is appointed as one of the executors and is not referred to as Hinton which is how he is listed in many property and census records but, all the data matches up. The significant link to the South/North Carolina family is that in a letter by Absolum Coulmbus Powell, he refers to "uncle Hinton". Absolum Columbus Powell's father was James Powell who was Catherine and Hinton's brother. Robert Haines Powell in his application for Confederate States service pension ties these people together. After years of trying, I am fairly certain of this relationship discovery. I welcome any input to the contrary. We all want to be sure of our genealogy. 3. Do you happen to know who his wife might have been? I have an Andrew Jackson Powell that, depending on which census you look at, was born in North Carolina. He was born in 1824, which could make a possible connection (or not). He also went to Kentucky. I have no parents or siblings for him either. He married Mary Jane Bates.born in Tennessee. Philip Powell, born Lancaster, PA.(1743-1821), was my 5th great grandfather. He was father of Peter Powell (1777-1863) my 4th great. He was father of Philip Powell (1809-1866) my 3rd great and who is the brother of your Henry. Philip was the father of Peter H Powell (1838-1921) my 2nd great. He was the father of Simon Joshua (1867-1912) my 1st great. He was the father of Burton Howard (1896-1954) my grandfather. He was the father of Eldon Eugene (1926-living) my father, who lives in Seneca County, OH. I, Donald Scott, was born in 1959 and now live in Alaska. I have a son, Scott Wilson, born in 2007. I submitted a DNA test to Ancestry.com but did not find the results very useful for my Powell lineage. I have just joined the Powell DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA.com. I am hoping the test will help answer some questions with our Wales connection. The info before Philip (1743-1821) is sketchy, and ! I'm not convinced that his grandfather, William, was one of the Five Powell Brothers who came to America in 1685. I'll let you know if I find out anything useful. - Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
