Thomas was born c. 1594 (aged "over 3 score years" in a 1654 deposition in Northampton Co. court records) came to The Eastern Shore of Virginia on the ship "The Sampson" in 1618., probably mar. Elizabeth c. 1618, had a son John c. 1618 and a son Samuel c. 1620. Samuel named his first son Samuel, his 2nd. son Thomas.Thomas d. 1662-1666 in Northampton Co. Gerald was born in or near Highland OH and died in Springfield OH. He had 2 sons, and 3 wives, both sons by the 1st wife. Gerald's brother, Cecil and Cecil's son, Cecil (Sonny) both ended up in Los Vegas. As far as I know Gerald never went west to live at any time. I can take this POWELL line back to NJ, pre-revolution. The Board recommended to the Board of the Society: 1.The application of the church at Knoxville to sustain Elder Joseph O. Metcalf for one year from October 15, 1845 at a salary of $100 from you. 2.The application of churches at Paw-Paw & Somonauk & Rock Creek to sustain Elder Norman Warriner for one year from June 1, 1845. Appropriation asked $100 from you. 3.The application of church at Dundee to sustain M. L. Wisner for one year from Nov. 1, 1845. Application asked $100. This case laid over and not at present recommended by us. 4.The church at Bloomington to sustain Lyman Whitney for one year from November 1, 1845. Appropriation asked $100 from you. 5.The church at Paris, Edgar County, Illinois to sustain Gerard W. Riley for one year from November 1, 1845. This regulation was adopted by the Board here (previously adopted at Canton) and it was distinctly explained to each of the Missionaries whose cases are specified in the page preceding and it was acceded to by the persons who are interested in the applications. Knoxville church has 54 members. Their direct appropriation is $28 to be deducted from $100. Paw Paw church &c. has 51 members. Their direct appropriation is $26 to be deducted from $100. Bloomington church has 80 members. Their direct appropriation is $41 to be deducted from $100. Paris church has 10 members. Their direct appropriation is $5 to be deducted from $100. All the applicants cordially agreed to this arrangement excepting Brother Whitney who appeared very reluctant and unyielding to the better suggestions of our whole board. The application from G. W. Riley I especially recommend to the board as deserving of patronage. The man is a very interesting brother and the place regarded as an important one in a section of country which is very destitute and which has heretofore been unsustained by any appropriation and therefore demanding regard. I have collected from Home Missions in each since my appointment from individuals & churches (as published in our Baptist General Association minutes) = $85.44 and I have subscriptions pledged to be paid this current year amounting to $74.15. I have the marriage certicate 3 Nov 1805 of his parents Benjamin Powell and Mary Edwards but unable to find any record of their place or date of birth. I also have the details of his Brothers John 1808 and William 1816. I have searched some of the Parish records for Brecon and the surrounding areas without success. but now feel they must have moved into the Brecon area some time before their marriage. Benjamin and his son Benjamin 1839 both worked as Boatrmen on the Brecon to Newport canal. If anyone can help with my research I would be most grateful. I believe they all stem from the Pennsylvania family of Agness Myers and her husband William Powell. The 1st one I see is their son Myers Powell 1772-1813 who married Mary Polly Castleman 1775-1852. They had a son named Hiram C Powell 1808 - 1894 who had a son named Myers Powell born about 1845. Then there is the Myres Powell in my family tree, great grandson (possibly) of Agness and William Powell, he is Myres J Powell from Beaver PA and was born about 1820, his name is spelled Myres and Myers in different census listings. Myres J. Powell also had a son named Myers Powell born about 1846. There is also a Miers Powell born in PA around 1845 or 1846 that lived in Ohio, Nebraska, and Kansas, all have civil war records but dont say which one belongs to Myres or Hiram, or if they are the same person, and the one with the spelling Mires has a civil war record with 3 wom! en wanting his pension. One is Myers Wellington Powell, some have him as Hiram's son, some have him as Myres J.Powell's son. There is also a Myers J Powell who was married in ontario canada about the same time.
