PEarl Powell was the second wife of my ggfather, William Andy Parker. She raised his 2 young sons. According to the census, they married between 1910 and 1920. Pearl was very fond of my grandmother, and left her some pictures of HER friends and family which have never been identified. My Daddy remembers Pearl applying for the Choctaw or Creek indian rolls, and being turned down. I would love to find out if this is the same Pearl, as she raised my grandfather! August 31, 2004, a man now living under the name Benjaman Kyle was discovered behind a burger King at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Hwy 17 in Richmond Hill, Georgia. He was beaten and nude. He has amnesia. Benjaman is believed to be about 60 years old. He has close, but not exact Y-DNA matches with several Powell men. Again! Are you missing a male Powell Relative? He would have been missing at least 5 years and maybe many more. Maybe you have a father, brother or male cousin who you have not had contact with in 5, 10 or more years. Please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjaman_Kyle . Read Benjaman's story. Look at his pictures. If you think you may have know this man or may know something about him please contact me at [email protected] or the FBI or the Georgia State Police. Thanks. Nelindra, I suggest that you write up your Edward Powell for the Wilkes County, Georgia, Heritage Book deadline for which is September 30, 2009. Directions and Information are at Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation web page. Click on the red oval in the logo on the bottom left of the page. That will take you to another page with a lot of concert information and other "stuff." Scroll up to the very top of that page. There will be a red square-rectangle at the top right of the page with wording about new book. Click on this for full information. Your post does not say when your Edward Powell arrived in Georgia. As you probably know Oglethorpe was formed from Wilkes in c. 1793. I am originally from Georgia. One complete side of my family came to that area of Georgia that was originally "old" Wilkes County, Georgia, right after the Rev. War and stayed. I am on the Powell list because one set of my ancestors was William and Amey _?_ Powell who were in St. Paul's Parish, Stafford County, Virginia, before c. 1715 when the death of a child was recorded in the parish register. My ancestress was one of their few surviving children. The surnames change twice through female lines that eventually migrated to Halifax County, Virginia, and then to Wilkes County, Georgia. I don't see any connection with your line at this time.
