He was the son of Richard and Emily Powell and born in an British army barracks in Dublin in 1882. His family may have gone to USA/Canada in the late 19th C but returned to UK later. He died in 1963. Hello! I was on this list many years ago and not finding anyone from my family, I finally left. But I have been given some new information and am also on the Powell DNA list and found a match. So, perhaps there might be some other Powells on this list now that we can compare our info. Recently I had a reply to a posting on Genforum about my Powells that said the information in Lucas' book on my line was not correct. It has that we connect to the Isle of Wight Co. VA group and even that was disproved on the Powell DNA findings. She told me that my William Powell who did live in IOW Co, had come there with his brother, George Powell about 1765 from Gloucester Co. VA. And that their father's name was John Powell and William had married Elizabeth Dobson in Gloucester Co and his brother, George married Mary Dobson, her sister. They were daughters of William Dobson. I am finding an early Dobson named Edward who lived in York Co. VA who is probably William's ancestor. I also find some Powells in this same area in the 1640s in York Co. Seems they lived around the Poquoson creek area. Hope to find some others looking at these families. Linda Garrett

My cousin passed the phone around so I could collect more info for the family tree. I am in the middle of researching the Powell's and have gotten as far back as the mid to late 1800's. I'm still trying to go further back and as wide as possible. In JA, EVERYONE was related to a Powell. I even have a run-on joke that says, "If you didn't have a Powell women, you may as not have one at all.". My great Uncle married a Powell. Actually, 2 of my great uncles married Powells.
