Hi! I'm not quite sure, but maybe. Check out the messages at the very beginning. The one you saw I posted along time ago before I knew the dates. Do you have any additional information? Let me know. Renee
Jean, Thank you for your response. The Michel Potvin you found may indeed be my gg grandfather. After checking my records further, I realized that his middle name is not Lee. Mitchell Lee Potvin is the name of his grandson, great grandson and great great grandson, but Lee was his wife's last name and that is where it originated in the family. So, I do not know his middle name at all. As for Michel instead of Mitchell, I suspect he may have changed it upon arriving in New York. The dates are very close and I certainly appreciated your assistance. I do not know anything about him prior to his arrival in New York other than the fact that he was born in Baie St. Paul, Quebec in May 1832. This is from his headstone. I don't know about any siblings or parents names and would love to find them out. I do know that he had four children and their names were Louis, William L., Celestia and Lovena. Whether or not they are family names I do not know. I will continue to try to find m! ore information locally and would appreciate any additional help you could provide. Thanks again. Renee Potvin Borgos
Hi Renee! I was doing some research too....any luck yet? Pat

OOOOPS Hi Richard. Was just looking through the rest of the Potvin list and realized my mother and I both have written to you already. Sorry. Anything new?? I have completed my Demers line back to 1550 with the help of some friends. Bob St. Gelais (The St. Gelais Families of North America - World Connect Project through RootsWeb.com) has included my complete line of Demers starting with William Joseph Demers. If I can help you further, let me know. Thanks, Laurie in San Diego (have not gotten any further Potvin line)
Hello Richard. I have Potvin's in my line. My ggrandmother, Marie Ann Viens (aka Cummings) married Benoni Bruneau. Marie Ann's parents were Joseph Viens and Tharsile Potvin. I believe Tharsile is Louise Potvin's sister. I show their parents as Marie Buck and Jean Baptiste Potvin. Do we have a connection??? Any information you might share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Laurie in San Diego [email protected]

Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this POTVIN Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- A subscriber to one of the other Mailing Lists which I Facilitate, has offered the following suggestions as a means of increasing the activity on the List: "Would it be possible to start a trend? Each week we concentrate on one (or more) letters of the alphabet for FIRST names of Potvin? We are getting a lot of input this way on another List and great discussions going. As an example, the first week we work on people whose first name begin with the letter A. There can be the usual e-mails covering all subjects concerning the Potvin lines but this might put some spark back into the list. Just a suggestion." I very much support this suggestion and encourage all subscribers to participate. So, to get the ball rolling, I'll chose a letter of the alphabet to work on for the current week (see the Subject Heading above), such as... 1st week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "A" 2nd week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "B" 3rd week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "C" etc. etc. etc. PS1: Anyone on the List can chose an appropriate letter (A, B, C etc.) and keep the ball rolling. PS2: Don't send your messages to ME... send them directly to the List at: [email protected] PS3: This "idea" is NOT to discourage anyone from asking/posting any other genealogy-related information to the List... it is merely intended to be a catalyst to get subscribers to actively participate. Enjoy. PS4: Since all messages are archived by subject matter, I would suggest the following be used as a "Subject Heading"... Subject: POTVIN first names starting with the letter A or Subject: POTVIN first names starting with the letter B etc. etc. YVON L. I have found some wonderful information on Ancestry.com on the Ancestry World Tree concerning Joseph Potvin and his wife and children. This begins with Joseph Potvin-dit-St. Louis and his wife Genevieve Dubuque. This information goes back many generations. There are 1473 individuals in this file! I hope that this information may be helpful to anyone researching this line. Also there is information on other Joseph Potvins which may be of help to other researchers. Sincerely, Barbara Ormsby
Andrew b1845 & Frances b1860 in French Canada. Andrew came to US in 1865, Frances in 1869. They were married in 1880 in Michigan, I belive. The 1880 census has the last name listed as Pulvin, 1900 census as Pudvan. Birth records for the children have last name listed as Padvau, Pudvine, or Podvine. The childrens names are: Nettie b12/1881, Oliver b3/1883, Joseph b4/1885, Eugene b13/3/1888, Clarence b2/10/1889, June b4/1892, Eddie b3/1895, Lawrence b2/9/1897, and Varue b11/7/1901 all born in Michigan. Lawrence is my great-grandfather. He changed his last name to DeVine at some point. He married Mildred Gierke. If anyone has any info on my family please respond. Thank You! Shannon
I have been doing reseach on the Potvin genealogy in Minnesota. If anyone would like a copy of this census for their records, please contact me at [email protected] I will be happy to send you a copy. Sincerely, Barbara Ormsby
