    1. Paul Tremblay married Luce Potvin
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0lABAEB/128.1 Message Board Post: Paul Tremblay married Luce Potvin in Baie St-Paul on November 11,1828. Luce was the daughter of Jean-Marie Potvin and Agnès Bouchard who got married In Baie St-Paul on September 30, 1788. Jean-Marie is the son of my ancestor Prisque married to Marie-Luce-Dorothée Simard dit Lombrette in B.S.P. on October 10,1764. Prisque is the son of Michel Potvin and Françoise Tremblay who were married in Petite-Rivière Saint-François (Charlevoix) on November 14,1735. Michel is the son of Jean and Françoise-Rose Otis married in Beauport on October 10,1696. Paul Tremblay is the son of Bénoni Tremblay and Marie-Anne Tremblay married in les Éboulements on January 17,1803. Bénoni is the son of Alexis Tremblay and Rose-Ange Gonthier married at les Éboulements on September 30,1760. Alexis is the son of Jean Tremblay and Catherine Lavoie married in B.S.P.on April 4, 1726. Jean is the son of Pierre Tremblay and Marie-Madeleine Roussin. This Pierre Tremblay is called the father of the largest French Canadian family. Very few old F.C. families have not a Tremblay in their family tree. Marie-Anne Tremblay, the wife of Bénoni, was previously married to Joseph Bouchard and Joseph Martel. She was the daughter of Joseph Tremblay and Marie-Jeanne Vézina married in l'Ange-Gardien on June 6,1746. Joseph was also the son of Pierre Tremblay and Marie-Madelaine Roussin.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0lABAEB/129 Message Board Post: I have written a short history of the Potvin family going back to Jean Laviolette dit Poitevin, and now Potvin, who arrived in Québec City in 1667. I have also have a family tree going back to this ancestor who came from France. One of his children, also named Jean, married Françoise Rose Otis (previously known as Françoise Rozotty) who is an Otis from Dover, New Hampshire. This girl was kidnapped by the Indians and brought to Québec along with her brother who eventually went back to the the U.S.A. Françoise apparently lived with a Parent family and was married in October 1669 in Beauport. All these facts were researched by a Grey nun sister born in Colorado and raised in Legal, Alberta. The Otis family originates from Great Britain. Small world is it not? All my documents are however in French and are available to you free of charge should you wish to go over them. You are all welcome to get in touch with me at: Phone: (514) 331-6167 Fax: (514) 331-9898 E-mail: [email protected] Have a nice day. Maurice Potvin

    1. Archived messages...
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this Rootsweb Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- You may not be aware that all e-mail messages posted on this Mailing List since its inception, are being archived indefinitely by Rootsweb. Not only does this eliminate the trouble of you "saving" messages on your own computer, but it provides ready-access for any message you've previously seen here (or may have missed when you were away or temporarily unsubscribed from the List). The _interactive_ search may be viewed at: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=POTVIN --------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. As you will see when you visit the above noted URL addresses, all archived messages can be viewed in "chronological" order, or in "thread" (by subject) order. The importance of using a brief but descriptive "subject" when you're posting messages (or replies) on the Mailing List, should be quite obvious. It is also important to also use the _original_ "subject" when replying to a message. This new service is provided for YOUR/OUR benefit... so let's all work together to make it successful. So, when posting a message to the Mailing List, please don't use a vague "subject heading" like...'Need Help'. Instead use a brief but descriptive "Subject" which best describes the content of your message. 2. If you are subscribed in the "Digest Mode", be certain to remove the Digest Reference Number in the "Subject" column, when replying to messages on the Mailing List, and replace same with a brief/descriptive "Subject" based on the content of your reply. 3. Another very important consideration, is that reply messages to initial inquiries should be posted to the Mailing List, rather than sent _privately_ to the originator. This is the only way all can see both the question... and the answer. Many thanks for your anticipated cooperation. YVON L. CYR, [email protected] Facilitator of this Rootsweb Mailing List. 1. Chat Room for ACADIAN-CAJUN Cousins
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this POTVIN Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- At the request of many users (whose comments/suggestions were greatly appreciated), I have decided to re-install the "former" Parachat Chat Room on my Acadian Genealogy Homepage, for your convenience. It is located at http://www.acadian.org/chat.html and now provides a choice of font sizes (for those of us with weak eyes! <grin>). The "new" Cajun Chat Network Chat Room (which still does _NOT_ unfortunately accommodate Mac computer users), is still available and may be found at http://www.acadian.org/chat2.html While I continue to encourage Acadian-Cajun cousins to meet any evening at around 7:00 PM (Eastern), it should be noted that both Chat Rooms are open 24 hours/day and may be used at any time convenient to you. Just (privately) send each other an e-mail message and decide what date/time you want to meet. Then, at the pre-arranged time, click on one of the URL address noted above. Note 1. If this is your first time "at the party", you may want to arrive a bit early in order to have the opportunity to check the (simple) instructions on how to join-in, listed on both Chat Room Pages. Note 2. As we all know, Rootsweb Mailing Lists are primarily intended for genealogy-related discussions however, there are times when subscribers might want to discuss a subject matter not quite suitable for the Mailing Lists. Obviously these ACADIAN-CAJUN Chat Rooms are excellent mediums for this purpose. Note 3. You must have your Internet Browser (Netscape, Explorer etc.) java-enabled. If you are not certain how to do this, contact your Internet Service Provided for assistance. YVON L. CYR, [email protected] Facilitator of this Rootsweb Mailing List. 1. Managing your subscription to this Mailing List
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this POTVIN Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- TO POST A MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON THE MAILING LIST: Type your inquiry/response message and send it to... [email protected] Note that the word "request" is NOT included and is only used to subscribe or unsubscribe from the Mailing List. Your message will be sent to ALL subscribers of the Mailing List. Be certain to keep your "signature" short and sweet. As a matter of fact, your name and e-mail address is all that is required (and recommended). TWO VERSIONS TO CHOSE FROM: You are either subscribed to the "L" Mode (and receive a copy of each messages posted on the Mailing List, in individual messages), or the "D" (Digest) Mode (and receive copy of multiple messages, in a _single_ e-mail). Regardless of which Mode you are subscribed to, you receive a copy of ALL messages posted on the Mailing List. If you are subscribed to the "L" Mode and find you are receiving too many messages from the Mailing List, turn OFF your signature file and then, merely send an e-mail message to [email protected] with the single word UNSUBSCRIBE (only) in the body of your message. This action will cancel your subscription to the "L" Mode. Then, send a second message to [email protected] with the single word SUBSCRIBE (only) in the body of your message. This action will subscribe you to the Digest Mode. TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THE MAILING LIST: First, you must determine if you are subscribed under the "L" Mode (individual messages) or the "D" Mode (digest of multiple messages in a single e-mail). 1. To unsubscribe from the "L" Mode, turn OFF your signature file and then, send an e-mail message to [email protected] with the single word UNSUBSCRIBE (only) in the body of your message. This action will cancel your subscription to the "L" Mode. 2. To unsubscribe from the "D" (Digest) Mode, send an e-mail message to [email protected] with the single word UNSUBSCRIBE (only) in the body of your message. This action will cancel your subscription to the "D" Mode. 3. If you change your e-mail address: A) As soon as you have your new address and have re-configured your e-mail program to reflect the new address, send a SUBSCRIBE message to: [email protected] You need not be concerned about your OLD address, since after a few "bounced" messages, the Rootsweb software will automatically unsubscribe the OLD address. B) HOWEVER, if you retain your OLD e-mail address and only want to receive messages to your NEW address, it WILL be necessary for you to send an UNSUBSCRIBE message (from your OLD address)... otherwise, you will receive messages at both your OLD and NEW address. Note: If you have more than one e-mail address, you MUST send your message from the address with which you are subscribed to the Mailing List. YVON L. CYR, [email protected] Facilitator of this Rootsweb Mailing List. For details visit URL : http://www.acadian.org/rootsweb.html

    1. Virus Warning EXCEPTION Message...
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: As you know, I do not normally allow _virus warnings_ of any kind on this Mailing List, because: A) This Mailing List is NOT the proper medium for these discussions. To discuss virus issues, join the established Rootsweb Virus Discussion Mailing List, by sending a SUBSCRIBE message to: [email protected] B) You CANNOT get a virus from the Mailing List, because Rootsweb does not process any e-mail attachments. You can however, get a virus from a subscriber who has a virus-infected computer, when he/she sends you a _private_ message. Having said that (and at the request of a number of subscribers), I feel I should alert you to the following (given that I have personally received _five_ verii in my last e-mail download... but _not_ from Rootsweb messages): 1: A new email virus called _BadTrans_ is spreading quickly through the net. I encourage all subscribers to visit the following links: http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99069 ... for complete details of the virus. And http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-020.asp ... where you will find a patch from Microsoft that will help prevent some forms of infection by this and other verii like it. 2. Dealing with the effects of this virus. Although your own computer may not be infected with this virus, someone you know might be. One of the behaviors of this virus is to automatically send out numerous copies of itself to people in the victims address book. This has the unfortunate effect of filling up ones mailbox and when this occurs, the users ISP server starts "bouncing" messages back to Rootsweb. After five bounces, the Rootsweb software automatically unsubscribes you from the Mailing List and you have to re-subscribe (after you've emptied your message box at your ISP server). Final Comments: 1. I encourage all subscribers to have (and use) some type of virus protection software. And be sure you have the latest virus definition updates installed. 2. Please do not discuss this subject matter on this Mailing List, but rather write privately to me (or directly to someone whose computer is infected), or subscribe to the above-noted Rootsweb "Virus Discussion" Mailing List. Thanks. YVON L. CYR, [email protected] Facilitator of this Rootsweb Mailing List. For details visit URL : http://www.acadian.org/rootsweb.html

    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this POTVIN Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- In an effort to continually improve the resources on my Acadian Genealogy Homepage for the benefit of all Acadian-Cajun 'cousins', I am pleased to announce that I have recently installed a _new_ Chat Page at http://www.acadian.org/chat.html This new chat room sponsored by the Louisiana Cajun Chat Network, winner of the prestigious "IRC Web Watchers Choice" Award, is faster, more reliable, easier to use and read (since the fonts are larger and can also be set to "bold"). You can meet and chat anytime however, I encourage all Acadian-Cajun 'cousins' to meet evenings starting at 7:00 PM (Eastern time) and "TALK" with all their Acadian-Cajun friends.
