Hi Potter People, Looking for any further information on this family who settled in Erie Co., NY sometime prior to 1820: Edmund (Edmond) Potter b. 11/14/1753 Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA, d. 7/10/1832 Erie Co., NY; m. 9/18/1774 Dartmouth, MA, Levinah (Lovina) Griffith b. btwn. 1751-60, d. (aft. 1834) Both were "of Dartmouth" at time of marriage. 1790: Edmund Potter lived at Westport, Bristol Co., MA Edmund was a tailor; purchased land in Danby, VT, in 1796 (Book 5, p. 74 Danby Town Clerk) 1810 census, Danby, Vt.: Edmon Potter residence (in addition to Edmond and his wife): [Lemuel and Joshua are married by then, and out of house] 1 male b. btwn. 1785-1794 (Noah) 2 fems. b. btwn. 1785-1794 (Sylvia, Judith) 2 males b. btwn. 1795-1800 (Edmund, James) 3 males b. btwn. 1801-10 (evid. Ephraim, Robert, & _?_ ) Buffalo Gazette newspaper, issue of 1/1/1817: list of unclaimed letters left at Hamburgh Post Office includes one for Edmond Potter; repeated for several issues. Although Edmund settled in the (now) town of Orchard Park for an indeterminate time before his death, having purchased land there in 1826, neither he nor his wife were members of the local meetings of the Society of Friends. 1820 census: Edmund and family res. Hamburgh 2/3/1826 Edmund Potter purchased property in Erie County, T9 R7, SW corner of Lot 21, 81 1/2 acres, $165.12. The same property was sold on 6/11/1869 to Theodore Barker (signed and sealed in presence of Nelson Palmer) by the heirs of Edmund Potter: Silvia Harrington of Hamburgh and Judith Palmer of Collins; Edmund's estate was administered by Joshua Potter and Hadwin Arnold, both of Hamburgh. 1830 census enu. in town of Boston (note census err: many enumerated in town Boston actually res. Joshua Potter b. 8/24/1781 Rhode Island, d. 3/20/1860 E. Hamburgh, Erie Co., NY; m. Judith Palmer ( I do have further info on this couple) 3. Noah Potter b. c.1788 MA, d. 4/14/1856 @ 68 E. Hamburgh, NY, buried E. Hamburgh Friends Cemetery near bro. Joshua and his family Buffalo Gazette newspaper, issue of 7/1/1814: list of unclaimed letters left at Buffalo includes one for Noel (sic) Potter Resided in E. Hamburgh; evidently unmarried A Noah Potter, baptised 3/23/1834 in the First Free Will Baptist Church of Hamburgh, West Branch, was dismissed (transferred) with letter with 64 other members on 5/9/1835 to form the Second Church in Hamburgh. 1850 census: he res. with bro. Joshua and family, Hamburgh, is "idiot" 1855 census: lists Noah as "idiot" (possibly senile?) was crazy and died on the farm, i.e., brother Joshua's farm 4.
