Although several people have this couple as moving to Warren Co. KY, I believe they instead went to Jefferson Co. KY. Here's my reasoning: Based on several census records, the Moses POTTER in Jefferson Co. KY was born between 1765 and 1770; he names his wife "Frances" in his 31 JAN 1848 will. Frances, age 80 and born in VA, is living with their son, Jesse, on the 1850 Jefferson Co. census. Thus both THIS Moses and Frances Potter are the right age to be the same-named couple who married 14 JUL 1789 (marriage bond date) in Franklin Co. VA. And according to census records, their first "surviving" child was born c1792 in VA -- again right age of parents' marriage in 1789. That this child is named "Jesse" adds to the evidence, for the father of the Frances KIRBY in the marriage bond is Jesse Kirby -- per LDS, and backed up by Franklin Co. records which 'suggest' as much. [Frances' mother, Dicey Bartee gave permission for the marriage; the wife of Jesse Kirby was named Desre in his will -- his daughter Frances was not yet married.] POTTER children born through (c1809) per census records list VA as their birthplace. Moses first appears in Lincoln Co. KY court records DEC 1808; this is the first year he appears on the tax rolls for Lincoln Co. too. Moses continued to live in Lincoln Co. until 1820 when he appears in Jefferson Co. records. His will was probated 6 MAR 1848. Frances was still alive when their son Jesse wrote his will in MAR 1851. I'll post the children of this couple in another message for I have some specific questions about a few of them. Linda Sparks Starr starr81@ix.netcom.com http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/
