Dear Gene and Potter cousins, I have connections to Potter, Stevens/Stephens and Blair Co. PA! But, not all connected directly together! :-) On my mother's side of the family, ma grandparents lived near Altoona, Blair Co. PA and I will be going back there in late June to our GUERIN family reunion. My grandparents, Edward GUERIN and Anna Sophia FEASLER lived in Ganister, a "wide place in the road" down along the Juniatta River. However, my POTTER and STEVENS/STEPHENS connections are in NJ and upstate NY on my father's side of the family. In NJ in the 1700's, John CRANMER married Hannah POTTER. Her family was from Connecticut Farms (now Union), NJ and had come from New Haven CT and were descendants of John POTTER of New Haven CT. This John POTTER was the son of the widow Hannah POTTER/BEECHER and John POTTER of New Haven CT and Kent Co. Eng. John CRANMER and Hannah POTTER had a son, Noahdiah CRANMER, who married Caroline Haines/Haynes. He was in the Rev. War and afterwards went to Bradford Co. PA and was an early settler there with his sons, John and Stephen. Stephen's sons, Abram and Dyer CRANMER, were early settlers in Wheeler, Steuben Co.NY. Abram CRANMER m. Silence STEPHENS/STEVENS dau. of Joseph STEVENS/STEPHENS and Desire STEVENS (yes, her maiden name was STEVENS). These STEVENS/STEPHENS were from Stillwater, Saratoga Co. NY and earlier from Caanan and Stonington, CT. They were descendants of Henry STEVENS/STEPHENS and Elizabeth GALLUP. Hope this connects with someone, somewhere. New to list - Seeking information on Kezziah Potter who married James Willis Amos, lived in Etowah Co. AL. I believe she is the daughter of Richard/Sarah Potter of Dade Co. GA. Unable to find marriage records as they were probably destroyed by fire. Believe she is also the sister of Margaret Potter who married John Floyd Sizemore in DeKalb Co. in 1850. Trying to find out where Kezziah and Margaret are buried. Do you have any info on this family? Thank you. Will/Ellie

Hello Listers and "Cousins", Sorry for the first messed up message! My family is in search of the WILSON family. My Great Grandfather was William Alonzo Wilson, b. Dec.24,1833 in Massachusetts. He married Nancy Adeline POTTER, b. June 16, 1833 in Indiana. William died, July 24, 1908, in the city of Snohomish. Nancy died, Dec. 2,1905, in the city of Snohomish. They are both buried in the G.A.R. Cemetery near Everett, Wa. William was a Civiiiil War veteran, possibly serving in Missouri. William was also, a policeman, a deputy sheriff and a bridge tender in Snohomish. William and Nancy were the parents of 13 children, nine of whom were living at the time of the 1900 census. We have found that William's youngest son, Grant WILSON, was fatally wounded in a shooting incident in Aberdeen between 1904 and 1908. He may have lived in the area. We believe he was married and had children. Grant was born in Iowa on Oct. 4,1872. If anyone can shed light on his life or death, please contact me. The rest of the siblings we have names for are: William B. Wilson born July 22,1855. Amy C. Wilson born Sept. 1, 1856. Roxy Jane Wilson (SCOTT) born Dec. 24, 1858 in Missouri. Mary Helen "Mollie" Wilson (WEST) born Mar. 19, 1860 in Missouri. Stephen Douglas Wilson born Aug. 1, 1861 in Missouri. Sarena F. Wilson born Sept. 28, 1863 in Missouri. Alfred L. Wilson born May 6, 1865 in Missouri. Clinton Albro (Albro Clinton?) born May 6, 1865 in Missouri (twins or a booboo). Christopher Columbus Wilson born Sept, 26.1866 in Missouri. Ida May Wilson (DIBBLE) born Nov. 26,1870 in Iowa. Rosa Belle Wilson (WILLIAMS) born July 15, 1874 in Iowa. We have found references to a 2nd Mary Helen Wilson born June 1, 1854. She may have died as an infant. Serena died in infancy and Stephen died in childhood. Rosa Belle Wilson (WILLIAMS) was my Grandmother. She married Harry WILLIAMS, Jan. 2, 1900, in Everett, Wa. They were the parents of 9 children. Rosa died of tuberculosis, Aug 30, 1918. She and Harry are buried in the G.A.R. Cemetery near Everett. Since I live in Tucson, Arizona it is more difficult to research these connections. Please help if you have any knowledge of these people. Thanks to generous help from people on the Wasnohom website, we have found much of this information. There are truly wonderful folks out there!! I will share information and help where I can. Thanks, Glenna Rice

The 1850 census for Sherbourne, Chenango County, NY, lists the family of Calbeth (? In another census the spelling appears to be Calenth) Potter, aged 35, b. RI; his wife Lucy (32), b. RI, and children Sarah 10, Catharine 5 and Margaret 3. The children were all born in NY. Also in the listing is John P.R. Potter, aged 65, born RI. Is anyone else researching this line? I would gladly swap information. Dorie Brown Lioy Rochester, NY
I have a problem with a branch of my tree, running my Hall line into the Potters, and hoping someone might be connected and maybe sitting on information of the Hall line I so desperately need. my gg grandparents Gideon Hall & Lois Maltby, -- daughter Hannah Eliz. Hall b. 13 Nov 1838 m. 13 Sep 1853 to Albert L. Potter, res 1402 Ellis ave. Lockport NY children Jay A. Potter b. 20 sep 1861 Chas. H. Potter b. 13 dec 1864 m. Sara Anderson Dana Anderson Potter b. 10 jul 1890 Myron Potter b 22 jul 1900 d. 1 jan 1902 Herbert D. Potter b. 9 jul 1870 Elbert L. Potter b. 3 dec 1871 d. 18 dec 1900 Frances Eliz. Potter b 27 feb 1876 d. 24 jul 1920 I found they ( Hannah and Albert that is) were living in Long Beach Calif. at the time of their death. rest of the information has unfortunately been lost due to my stupidity of storing all of it on the computer, and some nice soul that invented the "Happy" worm virus! This line connects thru Lois Maltby tree and all the way back to Adam & Eve--so they say. However I am more interested in finding out parents of Gideon Hall, whom I think is our "skeleton in the closet"! Grove Schoolcraft groves@coldreams.com "into genealogy to find who's to blame" !
Gene Stevens, Appreciate your response about Gilbert R./Robert Potter. I am searching for a Robert or William Potter, born in Chatham, NY 1811. Gladys
There are about a dozen Potter families living in Providence in the late 1700s: Reuben, Abijah, Joseph, Phineas, William, George, among others. It would be great to communicate with someone who has knowledge of the Potters of Providence, ca. 1770s. The printed and on line genealogies are pretty skimpy; the IGI, Ancestral File info is scattered and/or full of obvious errors. I put some working outlines of this Providence Potter info on line at RootsWeb WorldConnect Project. There are a lot of guesses in this collection: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=figtree1&recno=25966 In particular, I am looking for the parents of Sarah/Sally Potter, born 1773 in Providence, Providence, RI, died July 17, 1827, Providence. Married George Field in Providence, Nov. 5, 1792. Thanks for any help. Jim French in NJ

Heather in New Zealand, My George W. Potter was b. in 1849 in IL. I do not have any other George's, lots of Robert K. Potters back to 1811 in NY. Prior to that, I think England will enter the picture. Wish we could connect. Gladys gweimar@qwest.net
Barbara Bower, The father of my George W. Potter was Robert Knight Potter, from Chatham, NY, then Naperville, IL. I also have located a George T. Potter, son of George W. Potter. Wish we could put someone together! gweimar@qwest.net
