The Potters in my ancestry were mainly in the regions of RI, MA, PA, IL, and IA. Of course there could have been a branch that split off and went to Maine. But I have no records of anyone by that name. Or any Potters in Maine. Keep looking. Someone out there knows something. Happy Hunting! Barry Potter

    2. Ira P. Prince
    3. Looking to find info on my Potter line and willing to share what little I have so far My line can be found in the 1900 census of Walker county Ga in the Lafayette district. Tom Potter and wife Amanda along with a host of offspring. These were my ggrandparents. In the same census was I. R. (Isaac Richard) Potter listed as a 14 yr old boy who was my grandfather. There was another Potter family listed in the same census/district for that year. In that household was an 82 year old man by the name of Isaac Potter. Would have been born abt 1818 according to the census. He may have been the grandfather of my I. R. Potter. Anyone who might have some info or ideas please let me know. I have researched my Prince line back before the Revolutionary War and and am having trouble with those elusive Potters. Is the line from England? My grandfather mentioned once that our line was "Black Dutch" Thanks for your input. Phil Prince

Could I ask if you possibly have come across a David Potter, born in Va. abt. 1810-1815, possibly a son of one of the Benjamins you mention? This David born in Va., married Mary Ettleman in Mo. in 1838 and had a son of his own named Benjamin and one named John. Any Davids in your research of Va. Potters? Thanks, Pam Potter Hall

    3. I have never conclusively got any Potter back to England. My last known Potter goes back to possibly Leicestershire. He came over to the colonies in 1638 I believe. Apparently Nathaniel took part in the settling of Road Island. He signed some document along with 28 other people which swore their allegence with the King of England. He died in Portsmouth I think. He possibly had a brother named Robert. And some people believe Nathaniel had a father named George. I don't have my stuff with me here so a few facts may have been switched around. Let me know if any of this makes senceto you. Barry Potter

    3. I remember that we made contact with each other last year. We had a big crash on our computer last April, and I lost all information that I had in files in my e-mail, and all addresses. Got back a lot of the addresses, but missed yours, and some other list people. I have found a fourth cousin in IL. that has quite a bite of information on these Potters, He is a descendent of Samuel Potter, a brother of Ephraim, and he had contact with another Potter researcher from CA., who said she had 3 or 4 names of the eight missing children, but he never heard from her after that. Hope this not a repeat of what I told you before. Sounds like this could be a match! How exciting! There is quite a lot of information in Holdrege, NE. Will send it if you are interested. Mary

    3. Amy, Are you sure that her father's name was Daniel? Here is what I know about my Potters. Ephriam Potter was born August 24, 1796 in N.C. He married Nancy Overbay in TENN. They had eight children. Do not know any names of the children. They were in Harrison (?) County IN. when Nancy died. He married Elizabeth Hedrick in Harrison County, IN. in 1835. They had ten children. This information was taken from El Paso, IL. history book, and from tax-payers of Woodford County, IL. Some similarities, no facts. Mary.
