Classification: Lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/jlABAEB/1624.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Apparently the email notifications from this board don't always work... I just received my first tonight. The Potter Book I have was published in 1888, so any requests would have to be from before then. The naem of the bood is: Geneaologies of the Potter Families and their Descendents in America Alfred Mudge & Son Boston, Ma 1888 The book badly needs to be rebound and the book binder advised to use it as little as possible before rebinding it so I will not be able to do any lookups until it is done. In my line "George Potter of Portsmouth" all the information in the book was also in a database by C Winch (gumby@somewhereorother). While I found a couple of errors in the Winch Database, it seems (As far as my relations are concerned) a good starting place.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jlABAEB/1698 Message Board Post: Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) and the DAR message board have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. You can then also find out if others have become DAR members by using that Ancestor. This may show you other descendants and also provide some documentation that you may be able to use in your application! The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen Potter board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated

    3. Whilst checking through the Kidderminster Shuttle for soldiers killed in the First W.W. I came across the following; "The name of Liet. William POTTER of 1500 North St. Philidelphia has appeared on the American casualty list. Lt. POTTER was a nephew of Mr Arthur POTTER of Foley Park, and eldest grandson of Mrs Potter who has carried on a grocery business in Hall Street Kidderminster for over 50 years. His father Mr George POTTER who at one time worked for Brintons and who has been in the USA for over 40 years. Lt POTTER had three brothers in the American forces and three Kidderminster cousins in the British army." He was killed in 1918 and the notice appears in Kidderminster Shuttle dated 19th April 1919. Hoping this may be of use to someone out there. Hilary Potter pixieGB@btinternet.com

Andrew Ramey was married to Anna "Judy" Potter. Do you know if your ALbert Potter has any ties to the eastern Kentucky Potters or specifically to Anna "Judy" Potter or her sister Didema "Gal" Potter. We have been trying to locate some of their descendants. > >Letha > > Part 1.2 > > Content-Type: > > message/rfc822 > >

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Potter, Ogle, Wilson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/jlABAEB/286.1 Message Board Post: Hi Debbie, My 2x grandparents are Cornelius and Francis (Ogle)Potter. Check the 1850 Census records for Putnam county Indiana. The whole family is listed under Neely Potter, wife Fanny. Fanny was born Aug 16, 1810 in Tennesee and died (April 17, 1887) in Stafford County, Kansas, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa (Potter) and Christopher Columbus Wilson. They are in the 1880 census in Salt Creek, Lincoln County, Kansas. In 1880, my great grandmother, Nancy Adeline Potter (oldest child of Neely and Fanny born June 16, 1830) and her husband William Alonzo Wilson and family are found in Gore, Sumner County, Kansas. The name has been entered incorrectly under the spelling "Willson". The family next door are listed as Roxy J. and Lorenzo Scott. Roxy J. is also a daughter of William and Nancy. My Grandmother is Rosa Belle Wilson. By the way, the Cornelius Potter listed at the LDS site (film # 1761050) is the correct one. James Monroe was the youngest of the children born later in life. Frances was nearly 44 and Cornelius was 46. There were 11 children!! My information comes from Francis Potter's bible though another cousin. If you wish, contact me and we can compare notes!
