    3. Hi, In my study of the POSEY family I would like to correctly identify the husband of Frances MADOX, named as a daughter of John POSEY in his 1759 Charles County will. Rather than reinvent the wheel, has someone studied this, and can they provide reference to source documents showing the indentity of her husband? Unfortunately the archived rootsweb lists appear to still be down that I can not see if this had been discussed before. Published records have two different opinions: 1. James Wade Emison stated she married Thomas MADDOX, son of Benajmin MADDOX (who died testate 1771) and Frances (WHEELER?). He listed no source, but did note that the children of Benjamin and Frances were very similar to the names of the children of John POSEY [that died 1759]. 2. Elise Jourdan in "Early Families of Southern Maryland" 5: 43 states she is the Frances, wife of the above Benjamin MADOX who died in 1771. In 1740, John POSEY and wife Lydia in two deeds sold "Horn Fair" and "Poseys Chance" to Benjamin MADDOX and wife Frances and to the heirs of Frances lawfully begotten. (Charles County land records O2: 343-346, FHL microfilm 013745) Can someone provide documentation that Benjamin MADDOX's wife Frances was a WHEELER? If so, did Benjamin MADDOX have two marriages, the second being Frances POSEY whom he married ca. 1740? Is there documentation that John POSEY's daughter Frances married Thomas MADDOX? When were the children of Benjamin MADDOX born? I have seen estimates on-line of anywhere from the 1720s to the 1750s. Rick Saunders
